Inspired by Farudz Chaat recommendation in another thread, what are the ingredients of a proper Pakistani chaat?. Please list only the ones you have eaten.
For starters, I would say;
Cholay
Piaz
Timaater
Dhanya
imli ki chutni

Boiled potatoes
a squeeze of lemon juice
Green pepper.
Also add yoghurt/paapri for variation.
I forgot chaat masaala.
You know what, we don't use chaat masaala. Just salt, laal and sabz mirch, and lemon juice taste awfully good!
We usually use podina as garnish on the chaat, adds a nice flavor to the chaat.
hmm podina?. isn't that a bit too strong for something to be eaten without bread or rice?.
As a garnish dork. If it’s finely chopped than its not that strong, its not like your eating a whole leaf of it in one bite.
I prefer dhaniya ![]()
What is a "garnish dork"? It doesn't have diced p*ork* (hence, dork) in it, right?.
An embellishment added to a prepared food or drink for decoration or added flavor, garnish. Dork.
OK, I got it. You spread dork over chaat as a garnish. You could have said it like that but no, you have to be smart about it. ![]()
aww sorry i wasn't being smart, i didn't know how to explain it otherwise. Don't be offended. :)
my mum has a really simple recipe and it tastes abslouteley gorgeous
lots of chopped amrud and bananas, a few oranges and one pomegranet
add a bit of lemon juice, salt, pepper and sugar and enjoy
feeling hungry already (btw u could sprinkle chat masal on top it tastes even better then)
In aghanistan we always add fresh pomegranate seeds to chaat.
Fruit chaat with chickpeas :yumm:
this is one of my freinds specialties.
boiled chickpees
lots of thin thin sliced onions
lots of choped dhaniiyah
chopped tomato,l lemon juice
chopped green chili
5 tea spoon garam masala
mirich , salt
2-3 tablespoon oil
heat oli in a deep pan, stir fry onions for two minutes, add the chickpees, add garam masala, salt and mirich , and green chili and fry for 5-8minutes, so that the chickpees get even more soft. add lemon juice .
at last add chopped tomato and dhaniyah. and cover the pan with a lid for 2- min.
