i think you are right because:

kitnaa Khauf hotaa hai raat ke andheroN meN
poochho un -------- se jinke ghar nahiiN hote**

count the syllables:

kit + naa + Khau + f + ho + taa + hai + raa + t + ke + an + dhe + roN + meN = 14
poo + chho + un + ----- + se + jin + ke + ghar + na + hiiN + ho + te = 11

these two misr'as must be equal in weight but here they are obviously not...[14 vs 11 syllables]

now, 14 -11 = 3
so, the missing word must be 3 syllables long...

since parindoN = pa + rin + doN = 3 syllables

so, your word equals the desired number of syllables.
