Complacent approach - Success or Failure ?

I for one can not convince my self that Pakistan’s game plan for 5th-ODI was just
An “Experiment” and win or lose was not relevant.

Winning a series does not, and should not allow for one to lower their guards.

In a situation where this team is in the process of rejuvenating to new form and ranking, has again exposed the vulnerability through weaknesses and non commitment to their calendar program, and most importantly not to forget the turmoil this team has gone through in the recent past.

I’m convinced that in the ‘Professional spirit & commitment’ of the game Australians / South Africans or Sri Lankans would never indulge in this kind of slacked attitude.

And if Pakistan wishes to stay on top then we have to commit ourselves 100% to the Game and Plan and avoid repeating this kind of ‘Game approach’ EVER.

The attitude towards this 5th ODI should have been of the captain who marshals his troops to prevent a batsman on 99 not out to reach his century.

England did not win the match, Pakistan lost it even before the start which is more bothersome and disturbing.

Pakistan Zindabad :jhanda:

Re: Complacent approach - Success or Failure ?

Pakistan didnt loose the game, this was a just decision IMO, and this tells you alot about the whole team, the composed measured approach, the humbleness of Inzi and his mere presence on the ground along with shoaib akther firey attitude and our fav “pie thrower” regardless of his failure, he brings alot of energy in the playing 11.

Woolmer before the game said about “Bench-Strength” this gives you an idea of how good it is, can they actually pull it off, I think it will take time.

The positive I can say is, M. Asif but some work is need to be done as pointed out by the experts.

Honestly I dont think so Pakistan has find the placement to switch-swap when the backbone/ legends of our team will say goodbye and there will be shoes to fill in. There is no harm to find how good the depth is when you have the series in the bag.:k:

Re: Complacent approach - Success or Failure ?

^ All this is fine acrobi!

I believe Woolmer & Inzimam choose the wrong time to show-case their available talent (Which was not the factor to the match result anyways; on the contrary Asif was splendid on his debut match) Inzimam and Shoaib Akhter should have played the match and Sami and Younis should have been given the day off to make room for what ever experiment they had in mind.

We not only lost the initiative to occupy # 2 spot on the ranking table, but also lost the the opportunity to force England into qualifying rounds for ICC trophy championship.

It would have been a historic event.

I guess some one some where screwdup the communication link to Pak camp.

Re: Complacent approach - Success or Failure ?

Definitely missed out on the killer blow. It would have been humiliating for England to be at the no.7 where they would have had to qualify for the ICCT. Now they leave on a high, with a scoreline of 3-2 which doesn't do justice do the difference between the 2 sides.

But I think we didn't lose this match just because Inzi and Shoaib weren't playing. Our bowling was good enough to restrict them to 206 and our batting put us in a winning position at the 40th over. Just a hint of complacency crept in, you think those players would have played similar shots to get out if the series was alive?

I guess not !

But goes to show that our mind set is still very short sighted and we are not ready for ‘Big things to come’ such as ICCT or the India’s tour for that matter, don’t you think that a postive far sighted, no mercy approach to EVERY GAME would deliver you there?

Re: Complacent approach - Success or Failure ?

Yes definitely, but I think we could have accomplished that even without our main players. That would have been an better and more comprehensive victory - to win without Inzi and Akhtar.

Hence my point!

Pakistan should have gone all out in prep after the mother of all victories (ICCT) rather than to expose own weaknesses prior to another important series just round the corner. I’m sure this is not how the leading teams prep them selves prior to big games, Shoaib had an ankle and calf muscle swelling. Inzimam rested for no serious reason. On the contrary Younis Khan should have been given time-off to grief for his ‘Marhoom Brother - may allah rest his soul’ and I repeat , we lost opportunities to rub-mud on biased English media and it’s team.

Re: Complacent approach - Success or Failure ?

Re: Complacent approach - Success or Failure ?

Don’t worry, they will be.

Re: Complacent approach - Success or Failure ?

Well I think it could have been much better if it was by the hands of Pakistani team which
has always been the 'low casts' of English media,,,

Re: Complacent approach - Success or Failure ?

Strangely enough many senior Guppies of KK have chosen to ignore this thread even though it has been legit enough with its subject matter, and I for one was looking forward to understand the subdued reaction of the fans and the critics over this important flaw/lapse by the Pakistanis.

Any how, as the time passes and the Indian tour nears the date, I can clearly feel the 'unimportant' reaction to the 'lost chance' and more hyped reaction to the Indian tour, which has quite naturally engulfed the cricketing souls on both sides of the border.

I say, to hell with the Indian series! First I would be interested to know who was accountable for the 5th ODI match lose, which has exposed Pakistan's non readiness and under preparations to compete with opponents in major events n environment.

It will haunt Pakistan at vital stages of the series not only the Indian tour, but also the fore coming ICC tournaments.

I would brand this as the "biggest blunder" of Pak cricket 2005

Who ever has replied ^ I would like to thank them. And it’s good to understand the 'Qabliyat' of the other senior members which is probably limited to F/L league and cut & paste matters only.

Re: Complacent approach - Success or Failure ?

we stole defeat from the jaws of victory is what i have to say...especially the way afridi, rana and abdul razzaq got out
