I know people who have not formally done the course, but through extensive research have comparative knowledge of several religions.
However, I think that if you are going to compare religions with a pre-conception to prove "my religion is better than others" then it is a wrong foundation. To compare anything objectively, you need to go into it with a clean and clear open mind.
