hmm why cant my comp handle 4 gigs?
Currently my specs are :
**Mobo:
**Gigabyte PC35-DS3R
DDR2 + DDR3 ready, up to 8gb support
Bluray-HD audio output
Cap 1333 FSB
CPU:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
2.4ghz, 1066 Bus, 4mb per core cache
**RAM:
**Crucial Ballistix 1066mhz, 2gig
**HDD:
**Western Digital 500gb, 7200rpm, 16mb
**VIDEO CARD:
**xfx nvidia gForce 8800 GT, 512mb, 670mhz,
I just added another Crucial tracer 1066Mhz 2 gig sticks in there, and it won’t load vista.
However, it works perfectly find on 3 stix. So currently I have 3 gigs at 1066Mhz running smoothly.
Can vista handle 4 gigs?

Re: Comp crashes at 4 gigs?
There have been known issues with some motherboards that, they don’t register more than 3 Gigs on Vista.
Try reducing it to 3gig.

^-- Teggy, he had a Gigabyte mobo
maybe update the Bios.
Could also be the combination of 2 different types of Ram modules.
Re: Comp crashes at 4 gigs?
The 32 bit version of Vista doesn’t recognize 4 GB of RAM. The most it recognize is about 3.5 gigs if you’re lucky. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605/
Try applying SP1 to Vista. That might resolve it. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946003/

Re: Comp crashes at 4 gigs?
Oh, I hope you're not using 32bits Vista on a system with those specs? :p

I am hoping for it, thats enough :halo:
Re: Comp crashes at 4 gigs?
try using 64 bit ver of win
32 bit only support up to 2 gigs
more than that is a risk

Re: Comp crashes at 4 gigs?
On a serious note: Vista has had problems with 3+ gig ram. Microsoft is aware of this, and there is an update for it. Follow the update PB posted.
Hope it works for u bro...
Re: Comp crashes at 4 gigs?
Reporting isn't an issue, its the crashing of my computer that occurs when desktop is about to load.
Will the crashing stop after SP1? Where do I get SP1 ?
Also I dunno if I want to go to 64bit vista, I mean, 32 gives me enough problems, there will be more compatibility options with 64 no?

Re: Comp crashes at 4 gigs?
64bit doesn't have that many drivers available yet. I would suggest hold off on it for a while.
Just my opinion....
Re: Comp crashes at 4 gigs?
Serive pack 1 will officially be released around mid March. There is a release candidate available for download from a few sites. However, I would recommend waiting for the official release. Here is one of those sites: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Signatures-Updates/Windows-Vista-Service-Pack.shtml
And that also bring me to my 1000th post on GS
