Commonwealth medals - why is Pakistan lacking?

Please do not take this in the wrong way.
Just surprised why Pakistan is not gearing up its potential in sports.

  1. The armed forces (even tribals) would have world class rifle/pistol shooters, so why no representation there?
  2. The special forces (SSG) would be extremely fit & athelatic - so why no representation there?
  3. Most Pakistanis are well built, tall and sturdy - this should give them a huge advantage in sports.
  4. With a population of about 180 million, there must be hidden talent, waiting to be found.

Pakistanis "well built, tall and study":
Relative to whom? You need to compare Pakistani players with, for example, Australian players. Most Pakistanis are not "well built, tall and sturdy". But exceptions are everywhere.

Population alone does not mean excellence. Sri Lankan cricket team is as good or better as Pakistani team, for example. What is lacking is organization and resources.

^why do u give such sweeping statements without backing your claims???If u are mal-nourished,short and frail it dosent makes us Pakistanis like you.Maybe its the kharji phobia that is taking its toll.

Maybe it is because most people in Pakistan do not really take 'commonwealth' so seriouly.

So Pak is not winning models because Pak does not take commonwealth seriously?
Ok. Then WHICH sporting event does Pak take seriously enough to win?

There is nothing wrong in accepting what is obvious. Pak needs organization and resources, and then we can be the best.

Well, like PIA, State Bank, and other government departments, I have heard that Pakistani contingent to commonwealth games has been injected with a lot of PPP Jiyalas.

There is no value of this kind of sporting event among Pakistanis in general. They have other things to worry about.

This is not so high level of sport event. Like world cup events etc.

Other point of organization or resources....

Local level sports need to be established before even trying to compete at international level.

Nowadays, Pakistanis do not take any interest in any kind of recreation because they are busy sorting out their religion :smiley:
They first need to figure out what Islam really is and who’s a good Muslim and who’s not.

But on a serious not, Indians aren’t very bright either. In 2008 Olympics, their medal count was shameless to say the least, much behind countries like Kenya, Jamaica and even Ethiopia.

You take the first statement lightly but that really is quite serious. Most Pakistanis can not think beyond religion. For some supporting what they consider “Islamic” is more important than supporting what is true.

People have other things to think of too.

The world population is not divided in religious people and religious phobic group of people.

Not being interested in sports event like this has nothing to do with religion.

There are religious phobic/manic/crazy people who bring religion in every discussion more than even religious people do. :hehe:

There is no sports infrastructure in Pakistan, these days natural talent alone is not enough to compete on international level. An athlete has to be picked by the age of 15, trained for next 4-5 years and he can compete at international level. But this window is missed bcoz scholls have no sports facilities.
