Shri Naag Devta has all the rights and was there to participate so whats the problem?

Re: Commonwealth Games 2010,India/ games village unfit for atheletes

They should not be held in countries like India at all. However, now the international media will descend upon you with the athletes and all the India shining glossy Bollywood images will be replaced by reality.

Had India been a fair neighbour of Pakistan it would have saddened me more. No one likes to see a brother fall no matter how estranged.

India goofed up bad.

This clearly shows that India is 100 years behind China which staged the spectacular Beijing Olympics

Looks like indians are taking a leaf out of Ijaz Butt’s strategy guide on how to handle disasters…blaming the west of conspiring against the indians :omg: :omg: I had said earlier indians need Ijaz Butt to handle this fiasco… :omg: :omg:

Games organising chief Suresh Kalmadi believes the Commonwealth’s western countries have conspired to unleash the scathing criticism which has marred the build-up to the games.

In an interview with CNN India, Kalmadi was questioned about the constant criticism of the New Delhi Commonwealth Games over claims of corruption within the organising committee, the massive delays in construction and substandard building work.

**When asked whether the criticism was a conspiracy from western countries who could not accept that India could organise a successful Games, Kalmadi agreed.
“Definitely, that’s part of it,” he said.

Pressed further on whether the western countries had conducted a conspiracy to damage India’s reputation in the world, he said: “I don’t want to say too much but we’ll talk after the Games are over.”**

Before the Games opening ceremony on Sunday, they have been blighted not only by terrorism threats and a dengue fever plague, but also construction deadlines missed by months, a footbridge at the main stadium collapsing last week and filthy, unsafe and incomplete apartments at the athletes village.

But, as chairman of the Games organising committee, **Kalmadi said he never thought of resigning during the controversy, even when he was caught up in accusations of corruption ** in the issuing of contracts for Games work.

“Never, never; my team of 4000 people is working day and night to make this a great games and I have the full support of the government,” he said.

Kalmadi said he wanted an inquiry held after the Games to clear his name of all accusations.

And while he accepted the blame for the delays in construction and the chaos of the athletes village, he was still confident the Games would succeed.

“I will take the blame, but I don’t listen too much. … but when the Games are over, I hope I get the credit,” he said.**

He also said Commonwealth Games Federation chief executive Mike Hooper should also take some responsibility for the failures in preparation rather than just blame the Indian government and the organising committee.

“Mike Hooper has been in Delhi for the past four years and he should have known what was happening; there’s no point blaming the government,” he said.

“Definitely, he could have done much more, I could have done much more.”

This guy is a mini-me of butt

Re: Commonwealth Games 2010,India/ games village unfit for atheletes

^^

The guy is not a mini of Mr Butt, he is super Mr Butt. Kalmadi has not only humiliated himself, but also the country. Now this idiot is trying to deflect criticism and is indulging in this game of one-upmanship. He needs to be shot and then hanged.

Re: Commonwealth Games 2010,India/ games village unfit for atheletes

I don't understand any nation doesn't matter who they are when you have starving people in your country you spend billions on sporting event instead.

It really sad to see such a waste of money when you could help the poor people in education, creating work projects, invest in hygiene and infrastructure instead.

Re: Commonwealth Games 2010,India/ games village unfit for atheletes

is there a big advantage of hosting the commonwealth games to the host country? do each of the visiting countries give a substantial amount of money to participate is that why India decided to host it this year? i've personally never watched this particular event ever.

Re: Commonwealth Games 2010,India/ games village unfit for atheletes

Nobody paid us any money. India bribed all the nations to get their vote. They just called it by some fancy name.

Public money, that is money that belongs to common Indians like you and me has been flushed down the toilet; all 70 thousand crores of it. And what do we get in return? absolutely nothing other than stadiums that will collapse or be used for music shows and exhibitions in the near future.

All we are worried about is looking bad in front of the westerners. But what about the misplaced priorities? What about pushing out our own countrymen, who are poor, out of delhi by calling them an eyesore. The politicians and the middle class have shamed themselves. It is a despicable situation.
