According to Foreign observors Rampant corruption coupled with threat from 300 plus insurgencies going on in India promise to tarnish the event.Naxelites/Maoists threat along with mumbai like incidents where a bunch of somalian pirates travelled from sandy beaches of east africa to the coast of mumbai on a small speedboat penetrating indian naval defences and taking hostage entire city for 5 days and 4 nights are concerning authorities coupled with inefficiency of law enforcement to deal with such threats.State government even called for cancelling the threat but outcry from various civil society bodies kept them from it cause according to them it would affect an average indians image overseas which is already hitting all time low after the attacks on indian students in australia who were caught cheating with white aussie women.

Delhi’s Commonwealth Games Athlete Village is “Unsafe and Unfit for Human Habitation”

Hahahahahahahaha… this is so funny. Good enough by Indian standards (because it was presented to the Scottish team as where they should live) but unsafe by Western standards - a damning indictment of hygiene in India.

Managers of Scotland’s Commonwealth Games team have had to clean the athletes’ accommodation to bring it up to standard before the games in Delhi.

The team arrived in India last week and found the athletes’ block “unsafe and unfit for human habitation”.

An alternative site was arranged but it still required “serious cleaning”, according to a team statement.

The bosses have quetioned whether the Games should go ahead on 3 October if the situation was not resolved.

The event will run for two weeks, until 14 October, before the handover to Glasgow, hosts of the 2014 Games.

Scotland was one of six countries that arrived in the Indian capital at the earliest opportunity to set up its team headquarters, along with England, Wales, New Zealand, Australia and Canada.

The team statement said: “However, on arrival in Delhi on Thursday last week (16 September), Team Scotland officials found that building works had fallen seriously behind schedule and that our allocated accommodation blocks were far from finished and in their view, unsafe and unfit for human habitation.”

ofcourse this is the latest news.zealand and scotland have also shown serious concerns and is considering pull-out.
well it is all natural.who would like to stay in commonwealth village when the village next door is full of maoists and naxelites.

You can blame it on Corruption, Poor Planning, Politics. But India is not in a position to host a competition like Commonwealth Games. Forget about Olympics...

India hosted Asiad Games which were a success.

China did a great job hosting the Olympics. India will be compared to China, and if it fails India will not be able to host major sporting event anytime soon.

As sad is the state of affairs related to this debacle,what will be more sadder for us Indians is how easily this will all be forgotten by the establishment. Whether people want to be a part of the games or not citing naxalites or any other group is their prerogative.

The end result is, it was a job not well done. Take the same event, hand it in its entirety to a private enterprise, and you will see the difference. But probably it was too inconvenient for the corrupt politicians we have. But what do i know.

I am not sure why are they expecting 'western standards' in India. If you have given the Games to India, you should be a little flexible and accept that things won't be 'up to the scratch' as in first world countries.

They should have factored in the political/economic/security situation in India before awarding the games and now that you have awarded, go with whatever they can offer. Only lack of security should be a valid concern. For other issues, they can make criticism but pulling out because the residential areas are not spot clean is a little mummy daddy to me.

A few issues here:

BJP sold the 'shining India' to the world when they bid for CWG. It was a political stunt. Congress has to face the consequences!

The contractors were told to build games 'village'. That is how villages in India are supposed to be. Why such hue and cry?

I could be a 'conspiracy to defraud Commonwealth nations'. With many top athletes in the west pulling out, India would have a chance to bag many medals. Athletics IPL? ;)

In a sensational twist to the ongoing and unrelenting embarassment that is the Delhi Commonwealth Games (CWG), Indian External Affairs minister SM Krishna has alleged that Pakistani ’state-actors’ and ‘hired guns’ are behind the latest calamity to hit the games – the collapse of an under-construction foot overbridge near Jawaharlal Nehru stadium here on Tuesday afternoon.

His comments were backed up by the Secretary General of the four member CWG committee Dr. Lalit K. Bhannot, who is responsible for the technical aspects of conducting the Games and coordinating activities of the sub-committees.

‘We have been informed in recent days by the local government’s security apparatus as well as the IB (Intelligence Bureau) that there is a growing interest from Pakistani Jihadis in getting these games cancelled. We also know the ISI is assisting them just how they masterminded the 2008 Mumbai attacks ‘, said Bhannot.

‘We have sent the cement samples used in the construction of this foot-bridge to the labs to determine what kind of explosive devices may have been mixed with the powdered cement’, Bhannot added.

Atleast 24 people are believed to be injured in the footbridge collapse.

The steel walkway was being built to link the car park with the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium.

It is the latest setback to an event which has been plagued by construction delays, allegations of corruption and mismanagement, and a dengue fever outbreak in the Indian capital – all of which, says SM Krishna, has been orchestrated by Pakistan’s notorious military intelligence agency, the ‘Inter-Services Intelligence’ (ISI).

Mr Suresh Kalmadi, the Chairman of the CWG Committee who is the executive head and chief administrator for the event, also confirmed the same while speaking to a local news channel.

‘England, Canada, Ireland etc complained about the state of the Games Village. Let me tell you now, we have done extensive investigation into this matter and have arrested 2 Pakistani nationals from the site who had littered the players residential units with graffiti, scrawling ‘Jiye Muttahida’ on the walls. Both were found to be carrying Lashkar-e-Tayba ID cards complete with serial numbers, barcodes and advanced data chips. They also left the toilets unflushed and it was obviously embarassing when the forward committees of these nations visited to inspect yesterday. Rest assured we have everything in control and will be DNA testing the samples collected from the toilet bowls, which will confirm Pakistani involvement in this great Indian embarassment’, said Kalmadi while speaking to NDTV.

Kalmadi had been referring to the demand by the CWG Federation to take immediate steps to improve conditions at the athlete’s village in Delhi.

Team delegates described the accommodation as filthy, unhygienic and unfit for human habitation.

Meanwhile Pakistan’s Interior Minister, when asked for comments, confirmed that he has ordered an investigation on his side.

‘Our sympathies are with our Indian brethren. We assure them of our full support. No one likes to come face to face with an unflushed toilet. It is disgraceful behaviour and I have requested India to send us the samples collected from the toilet bowls. I will compare them with what we have, I’m sure the Taliban are behind it. I have ordered an immediate investigation’, Malik said.

My Comments:

Perhaps it was exigent for these so called Pakistanis to carry “Lashkar-e-Tayba ID cards complete with serial numbers, barcodes and advanced data chips.” Just to make investigations easy for Indian authorities…

They even left the toilets “unflushed” I guess it was intrinsic to the circumstances to leave clear evidence for Indian authorities, I wonder if these feces straight out of toilets were sent out to the lab to determine whether these feces were discharged by Pakistani anuses…

By the way today the false ceiling of the venue has fallen...i wonder what the indians have in store for the opening ceremony? ;)
