Ok so, I just returned from a park where I’d taken the kids. Nice sunny day, pretty park, next to the lake and all.
So a family was having a birthday picnic in the shelter and many kids were on the slides and swings along with my 2.
One of the kids did pee pee in his pants and his diaper leaked on the slide. I saw it. The parents got him off and walked away.
So I got my kids off the slide and told them to play elsewhere.
What should the parents have done to sanitize the little booboo? Take care of public health and safety from our end? Maybe wiped the slide? Thrown some water over the area? What?
Oh, that is a horrible place for a diaper to leak (plane seat being another one, especially for long trips).
If the parents had water with them, or maybe a little cloth, they could have taken the action of wiping it down or putting water over it and cleaning it off. But generally, people disregard their own selves when being a part of public property, even a candy wrapper is thrown outside of trash cans which are usually located everywhere.
You saw what happened and instructed your kids to move from the slide. What if you hadn't seen it and no action was taken from the other side. Also, parents need to be extra careful of ensuring that their child is safe from germs and diseases that can be spread with an incident that might be insignificant in their eyes but when in public areas, they are all that matters.
There were restrooms and taps there. Even paper napkins. But like you said, people don't care about public property. I would however, feel responsible to clear whatever mess my kids would make. Kids can have mishaps but we as parents should be a bit more responsible.
obviously, very immature and ill prepared parents would do so, that not clea up after their kids' vomit or pee pee or poo poo.
these are unspoken social rules to follow. no one should have to tell parents what to do.
they should use their own heads in such things.
So I was in a play area at the Mall one day and a little kid vomited. The mommy cleaned up her kid in a jiffy, and returned to the puke site and used her baby wipes to clean up the mess. Then she said she was going to tell the Mall info desk people to send someone to clean up. That was quite responsible.
As parents, I guess we need to understand that we cannot protect our children from everything. I guess we can be alert and be prepared. Like I always carry wipes and sanitizing spray in the diaper bag. I never forget to clean the kids hands after they are done playing at a public place.
