I underwent alot of interviews recently. Most of them asked me ‘whether I would like to go for grad school later or not’. Do you guys think it would affect the selection process? If so, what would you think they prefer, a yes or a no?
Depends! If the work is high demand and you want them to let you loose on Grad school, they might not like if you answer them Yes. Instead, if they are looking for someone in the long run and would appreciate someone who wants to improve his potential by getting a graduate degree, then they might like you to say Yes. Most startup companies have too much work load on one person and so they like people to stay focused, while big companies like IBM, HP actually encourage people to take classes.
I suggest you say what you really want to do! If you are unsure, tell 'em that you are not sure right now. You can phrase your answer in terms "Being a student right now, I am eager to get into the "real world" ... so, currently I don't have any immediate plans for grad school, but if I feel that some more education will enhance my career, I will definitely go for it".
spock if they are not pressuring for a yes or no answer and you dont know if they prefer yes or no as an answer, dont say yes or no.
as ahmadjee has stated, u can say that right now u just want to work and keep up with your field thru continuuing education, internal training, seminars etc..but maybe at some point in time you would consider getting your masters when you are at a career stage where that will be beneficial to yourself and the employer.
one thing is for sure
no company wants to hire people
who just run away after 3-6 months
