I once read that the Khawarij assassin of Hazrat Ali (ra) recited the Quran constantly from when he was arrested to when he was executed. Could he be relied on?

I was talking of the use of words drama in one sentence and reliability of those who recite Quran in next sentence. No one is perfect, but religion and religious practices should not be referred while condemning someones acts IMO.
