Unless of course, you are not a person who enjoyed the privilege of being one of the first addresses of the beloved Prophet, and thus, a person who would be fully versed with the classical Arabic language of “Ummul Quraa”. It is in the language, which the Qur’an itself has termed “Arabiyin Mobeen”, i.e. ‘clear Arabic’. It is in the language of the “Ummul Quraa” i.e. the Chief Town of Arabia – i.e. Mecca – which in fact was the language of the Qureish.
Therefore, even a person whose mother tongue is Arabic, cannot have a scholarly command over the Qur’an, if he is not well versed with the language of the “Ummul Quraa”.
How can you expect us to pursue and engage in a contructive dialogue over this particular issue if one of us keeps expressing doubts upon the others motives?

This is my last post on this subject. I hope this was a good learning experience for all. Thanks to every one who commented on this topic. Here's what I learnt from looking at all the posts together:
Quran has given wife beating as a choice to the husband.
Quran does not say anything as to what happens to disloyal husbands.
Modern day husband may not use the discretion of beating, not because he is a good muslim but he may be afraid that local laws might put him in jail or he may be afraid of the retaliation from his wife or her family.

Amy I am still waiting for that evidence to finally seal this matter. You surely don’t sound like a person who ends up resorting to making blatant accusations when they are not able to prove their stance on the topic at hand.
