Commentating lines that are "exasperated"

This thread has been made to vent out your frustrations (no, not about losing the test series, or a one day series rather :D) but about general commentating lines that, you, as a cricketing fan, have found, well, irritating or bothering, to be exact, over the course of years that you have watched the game.

A few brainstormers:

  1. When two similar shots are played in the exact same direction on consecutive deliveries: “The second one is ee-even more beau-tee-ful” (even though you rather liked the first one).

  2. When commentators try and read the statistics straight from what is being showed on your TV screen: “This bowler have taken ‘X’ amount of wickets in this number of matches” (rather than bringing a related statistic that they either know off-hand, or try and relate something on the screen to something else - to something comedic rather).

  3. Dean Jones’s “GOING…GOING…GONE!” (Even though I personally love it, but it deserves another mention).

  4. Even though this has happened on not a large chunk of ocassions, few commentators let out a deep sigh as in “Aww-hhhhhhh” (which, at that point in time, seems like the end of the world) after watching an exquisite cover drive.

  5. The ball is just hit like a rocket, and no fielder is in the picture for miles: “Will it reach the boundary”? After the ball crosses the rope and the scoreboard is updated “Yes, it does”.

  6. “The long-off fielder was a mere spectator” refering to the ball that crosses for six.

  7. “One bounce, two bounces, and a boundary”.

  8. One of my personal favorites is when they focus the camera solely on umpire’s face, and talk about him for a good minute or two. Quite a number of times we have seen the facial expressions of umpires change drastically (chewing gum, adjusting their hats, stance, a little smile e.t.c.), and we are left wondering “Gosh, I wonder what he must be thinking at this exact moment”?

Although, I should emphasize, that even though almost all of the ones above mentioned are quite far from annoying or disturbing, they have just been repeated so many times over the number of years that it has taken it’s toll and one almost feels it coming when being trapped in any of the required situations.

Have at it.

Re: Commentating lines that are "exasperated"

what u get from Jones, was actually started by Chesti mujahid(pakistani english commentrator from 80's and 90's). his another favorite was ** Down HE comes, up SHE goes, and SIX he gets**]

Re: Commentating lines that are "exasperated"

"That Ball was Travelling."
"______ has taken a blinder"
"Very ordinary/poor cricket by ______"

--- Rameez Raja

Re: Commentating lines that are "exasperated"

i find it annoying when (usually asian commentators) lose their train of thought while expressing their opinion and just stop and thats the end of that.

hopefully you guys know what im talking about "...and...uhh..i forgot what i was talking about" - they dont actually say i forgot what i was talking about

Re: Commentating lines that are "exasperated"

Dhobi jee...you seem to have developed an obsession for commentators...

Re: Commentating lines that are "exasperated"

Or commentary itself...:D

Plus, I will be applying for Waqar's position, when he retires. I want to continue the tradition of "AND-AA's" and "BUT-TA's" for Pakistan. :D

Re: Commentating lines that are "exasperated"

Dhobi bhai,
very nicely said. I like Waqar Younis does the commentary but he makes sometimes big "fumbles." During the Pak England series, many times, he referred to Rana Naved as "Naved ul Haq" and many times he referred to Mohammad Yousuf as "Yousuf Youhana." He sometimes seems to lose the way in the midst of happenings. Also, one of my fav. commentator Ramiz Raja's favorite phrase, "electrifying atmosphere."

I got many more of Bill Lawry and Tong Greg which I presume to hear only during ICC Champions Trophy and WC 07. What you think?

Re: Commentating lines that are “exasperated”

How about:

“There is a method about his batting..”

Who is it?

Re: Commentating lines that are “exasperated”

and throughout the india series n 20/20 tournament he referred to rana as “naveed rana” :cb:

Re: Commentating lines that are “exasperated”

i cant forget shiva’s “aaaahhhhsss” wen afridi was on a rampage in the first test at lahore :hehe:

“That’s a beautiful cover-drive through the covers.”
Javagal Srinath, on commentary, states the obvious :rotfl:

Sincerely,
Captain Lota

Re: Commentating lines that are "exasperated"

Dhobi bahi,
on a funny side, don't forget to say "Naved ul Haq" and Youhana to Yousuf.. Lolz... Also, don't forget to say "Pakistan need a wicket" and this is the funniest one from Waqar, "What a fielding"....

Gems from the legend are hard to forget, I know. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t think there would be a need to create a separate thread for all of Waqar’s commentating lines in the near future (hamaray eik aur *parosi *bhai ko sun kar kahin heart-attack na hojaye :D), but this would serve.

I also remember Rameez’s “Murdered England”, which was famous throughout the English series. But Arun’s “Aaahhhh” has to be the favorite, for obvious reasons. :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Commentating lines that are "exasperated"

Dhobi bhai,
I agree with you. This thread should be named "Waqar's" innovative commentary.. lolz...
Anyhow, yea, I remember the "Ahh" like some pain being inflicted but after the first second, Arun Lal realizes that go back to Cricket mind....

Munir Hussain ( Urdu Commentator ):
1 )Aur yai Chooka hai nahi yai tu out hogia.
2) Aur yai out nahi maaf kijeeye ga chakka hai.
3) "Imran Khan apnay nishaan pe ghoomay.. dorna shuru kiya .. umpire ke paass say guzray... faza mein uchlay or gaind phainkee ....... or nazreen chowka"

Mark Nicholas when he says "Wonderful batting" or "Excellent Batting" Makes out that nobody in the history of the game has played that shot before.I sit at home and think "it was only a coverdrive, and it never went to the boundary anyway"

Bill Lawry: No faults. Just a huge nose and a "Ohh His gone, yes, got him, gone".

Sarfaraz Nawaz: "Donald is leyee AAAAmur (Aamir) ko aaf(off) side k bahaar GAIND kara RAHA hai keyun k wo AAAMur sai CUT MURWANA chah raha hai"

Yashpal Sharma: Australia ki koshish rahegi ki jyaada se jyaada run banaye aur Bhartiyay gendbaaj koshish karenge ki Australia kum-se-kum run par out ho.

*Mohammad Idrees (urdu radio commentator): * Qadir aieey bracewell ko ball karanay aur BRACEWELLL BOLDDDD. Bracewell nay apnee wicketo ko dekha aur phir qadir ko aisa dekha jaisay khe rhay hoon" Qadir yeah tu nay kya kya"

Re: Commentating lines that are "exasperated"

Very nice Da Paki Guy.

Also, one of my favorite commentator Ravi Shastri's fav. line:
"Edged!! and taken!". Also, Bill Lawry's "OH dear o dear", can't forget the way he said in the WC 99 Semi final between Aus and SA.

Re: Commentating lines that are "exasperated"

here is the most frustrating:

9AM Saturday: Bedi comes in...bowls....good length on right and middle... forward defensive ...fielder collect and tosses to Bedi...
.....
.....
....
after 3000 of these
...
9Am Wednesday - Bedi, comes in bowls....good length on right and middle.....
