Between the non-stop panels and parties on Thursday and Friday, those who make it through Saturday without crashing out in the lap of some random Stormtrooper should be commended for successfully surviving what is one of the most hectic events of the year. Sundance, Cannes, SXSW, Tribeca, Toronto – none of them come close to the insanity that is San Diego Comic Con. But fans will want to save up their Vitamin C and energy drinks for Saturday because July 24th will be one of the biggest days of the year – not only for fans, but for the studios who have invested so much in these big comic book/superhero franchises.
I’ll make this easy on you:
- Warner Bros. is bringing The Green Lantern,](Green Lantern (2011) - Movie | Moviefone) Sucker Punch](Sucker Punch (2011) - Movie | Moviefone)and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows](Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010) - Movie | Moviefone).
- **Overture is bringing Let Me In](Let Me In (2010) - Movie | Moviefone), the much-hyped remake of Let the Right One In.
** - **Universal is bringing *Paul *](Paul (2011) - Movie | Moviefone)and Cowboys & Aliens](Cowboys & Aliens (2011) - Movie | Moviefone)
** - **Marvel Studios is bringing *Thor *](Thor (2011) - Movie | Moviefone)and Captain America: The First Avenger](Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) - Movie | Moviefone). Marvel also hopes to use this opportunity to introduce the cast of **The Avengers.](The Avengers (2012) - Movie | Moviefone)
Needless to say this is a big day for a lot of people. Will Marvel hear fan backlash over the Edward Norton decision? Will DC use this moment to begin to stage a comeback? Will Jon Favreau continue to impress as a filmmaker once away from the Marvel franchises? Almost all of these (with the exception of *The Avengers *and maybe Captain America and Cowboys & Aliens) should have footage to screen. Will these presentations leave us wanting more, or will they begin to call into question our overwhelming anticipation of the summers of 2011 and 2012?
Stay tuned to *Cinematical *for more Comic Con coverage than you’ll know what to do with (I’d throw it in a bowl and make a soup, but it’s your call). Check out the full schedules for all four days over on their official website.
