Re: combination skin

Facewash+ Exfoliator sponge = helps a ton with the combination skin. I use two different one’s for day/night (la roche posay/shiseido) latter one has exfoliating beads in it so Its super amazing. Leaves the skin so clean :k:

Every few days I do honey masks and rose water as a toner. You can also use a moisturizer at night before going to bed, shiseido again has a great one for oily/combination skin

And yah I wouldn’t want to do peels in hot months since the sun can cause pigmentation, If you want a peel do it in October/November.

Re: combination skin

1) I live in a Southern state knows for sun/humidity & I go out pretty much every day for work/errands/hanging out with friends etc. I don't spend hours out in the direct sun, wear sunscreen and sunglasses, and a wide brim hat if I know I'll be outside for more than 10 minutes or so. So unless your work or other activities keep you outside in the direct sun for hours every single day, I'm not sure why light peels like lactic would be a problem as l one as you're using proper sun protection.

2) Sunscreen is the best item for skincare…regardless of your skin type. Even if you don't use peels, RA, or any other acids……if you're spending time in the direct sun (in the summer or winter) without proper sun protection, your skin is being damaged. Read up on causes of age/sun spots, wrinkles/fine lines etc.

3) All that being said, I have combination skin that's acne prone. If you don't want to use any peels, AHA's, RA etc….then I would recommend the following:

a. Gentle clenser - Cetaphil is a great, inexpensive choice. Another great option to clean face/take off makeup at night is the oil cleansing method (if you do a search on this board you'll find info. on it).

b. Oil for moisturizer - Jojoba is a great all around oil that's inexpensive (great for OCM too). Rosehip is another one that generally gets great reviews. Some other goods ones to read about are argan and avocado.

c. For exfoliation, something cheap like St. Ives works great. Wal-mart, CVS….pretty much most places carry it. Its gentle and can be used 1-2x/week depending on your skin.

d. For mask once a week, Queen Helene's Julep mask is awesome! This is what I use when I'm taking breaks from peels/RA etc. for whatever reason.

e. Of course, a good sunscreen when you go out. :)

awesome … thanks to both of you!!

paheli… i guess peels are a completely new area for me and i wont lie… nadzz and her scarring and god knows what else thread on chemical peels freaked me out :d

maybe i should just go the peel route. hmmm…

gonna search GS for your peel explanations.

Re: combination skin

^ Nadzz is special. :D Chemical peels can be dangerous if you don't do your research, aren't careful when doing it, and don't commit to sun protection. But when done properly, there is no reason to be scared lol.

Read up on all the thread here on chemical peels. Search for lactic acid, glycolic peels too (some threads may be under that heading).

Oh I forgot to add Vitamin C serum earlier. Be sure to get this (see other thread below for more info.).

haha. :zip:

ok im sold paheli.

my game plan is

cetaphil cleanser

vit c serum (start off alternate days)

moisturizer… rosehip or argan oil. ive used rosehip in the past…and it was.awesome. wonder why i stopped

retin a (havta find a place that sells it. )

question: are moisturizers with retinol ( example: RoC) just as good as the retin a on its own?? and if one uses retina a at night, do we follow with a moisturizer ??

Re: combination skin

Nope. In the U.S., Retin A/Tretinoin requires a physicians prescription (I buy mine online). Many over-the-counter products contain retinol which is a derivative but the concentration is TINY. With products, ingredients are generally listed in order of importance/amount (can’t find the proper term lol). So even with products that claim they are retinol or whatever…..look at the actual ingredient list to see how far down the line its listed.

BTW, Retin A should NEVER be used during the day time! I don’t even get how its a good idea to use products with retinol/other acids during the daytime b/c I see so many creams that has it…..unless again the amount is to little that it really doesn’t matter.

Vitamin C daytime with sunscreen. Anything containing retin-a OR any type of acids/peels etc. at night.

thanks so much for the detailed reply paheli... much appreciated!!!!!!

Re: combination skin

I recommend you to take care of your skin properly by hydrating and protecting it. Hydrate your skin by using a good facial moisturizer that has no harmful chemicals and avoid using harsh soaps. Don't forget to use a sunscreen everyday to prevent sun burns and dryness of the skin. You can also use a hydrating mask once a week to moisturize your skin.
