at the moment i have dark brown/black hair which is dyed brown from the bottom. my whole head used to be brown but it grew out and now there are a few inches of brown only on the bottom. i really like the way it looks but i also need to get a haircut and if i do that, i’ll have to cut the brown part of my hair. now i don’t want to get my hair re-dyed from the salon and pay a good deal of money for only a couple of inches of hair coloring.
so, i wanted to know if getting hair color from a store and coloring my hair myself was an option. my hair was bleached while i was getting it dyed so i’m not sure if that’s the only way to get dark hair prepped for coloring. some say it is, some say it isn’t. i don’t really know. can you guys help?
i really REALLYYY recommend Loreal paris Superior Preference Les True Brunette. They have 3 shades which are specifically made for ppl with natural black/dark hair. this stuff takes your shade down 3 shades lighter than it is. its awesome! this is all i ever use…having been using it for 2 years now. i mix between the 3 diff shades and love all of them.
oh yea, i just saw that too. hmmm. no idea why not working. chalo, u can just go to www.lorealparis.com and from there go to the HAIRCOLOR section, then choose ALL OVER COLOR..and then pick Superior Preference from the brands list. it has all of the available shades listed. good luck!
The only way I know to lighten black hair is through bleaching but through dying it a very light brown shade a few types you will get a chestnut brown tint to your hair.
I don't have black hair, but one of my friends does. She doesn't always get her hair lightened at the salon, so when she's at home, she uses Loreals lightening kit till it's really light, then she uses any colour dye that take her fancy :)
^but wouldn't bleaching your hair yourself get messy? isn't it hard to get the bleach evenly through? i don't want my hair to turn blonde on some areas and orange on others..that would make any color i put on top look uneven too
^ That’s why, if you read the instructions of the lightening kit PROPERLY (which most people don’t ), you’ll see that it tells you that you’re supposed to bleach the mid lengths to ends first… leave it on for desired time, then put the bleach on the roots in the last 20 minutes or so (or whatever it states in the instructions)… My friend didn’t bother reading the instructions the first time round, and she ended up with white blonde hair at the top near the roots, and orange everywhere else!
She got it corrected at the salon… a couple of months after, she tried again, this time READING the instructions… turned out fine …she dyed her hair to her desired colour… looked great, and it was a fraction of the cost that a salon charges
