Increase in traffic, but also in spamming and in difficulties related to moderation. The aim would become quantity (one liners/ khana puri idher udher ki batien), compromising the quality. Hence, attracting respective type of contributors/readers specially in serious discussion / help seeking / knowledge sharing / learning...etc. forums. (That usually becomes a victim of personal chit chat within the discussion)

I've seen the original thread where sannan made the suggestion and I think there were other choices there which weren't as in your face. Maybe a designated nick colour or a thin colour bar at the top of the nick.
