Anyone knows how people used to address Collector and Deputy Collectors during British era?
I read that Mukhtiyarkar was addressed as Khan Sahib. Also heard people giving comments for a rude person (not ready to mingle with others) as ’ wo to khan sahib hai’

Rai titles were for Hindus, Khan for Muslims

It may because of the fact that such posts were hold by goras, but when locals were appointed on these posts, they were also referred with same titles.
