Coil- contraception

I am thinking of getting this because regular pills are so bloody hard to remember even if you have set the reminder on phone!

Implant was also an option but it looks do scary and am scared of needles! Yes even after giving birth :o

Have any of you C section mums got coil implanted and does it hurt?

Re: Coil- contraception

no experience with C-section. But the coil is not suppose to hurt. It will be a bit discomforting (hurt) when they implant it - but shouldn’t hurt afterwards. You should be aware of the side-effects as heavy bleeding and risk of ectopic pregnancy.

Coil- contraception

I had the copper coil and it was THE worst experience of my life! It really did hurt when it was inserted as they clamp down on your cervix and for me it just didnt work the threads kept unwinding and the breaking point came when they just unwound. Sigh so i had it removed. When i had it i would get painful periods

I am just thinking will it hurt more as I got surgery done. Ectopic pregnancy occurs only if you are pregnant when you had insertion done?
Bleeding happens with pill too so that’s nothing new.

Re: Coil- contraception

There is no difference in the discomfort of a coil/IUD for women who have had a csection.

An ectopic pregnancy is when the embryo implants itself outside the uterine cavity. Since an IUD or coil, is meant to prevent implantation, there are minor risks associated that may or may not lead to an ectopic pregnancy.

My sister has had Mirena, the hormonal IUD for more than 10 years…no side effects, no issues.

Re: Coil- contraception

^ what about the risks/chances of getting pregnant (ie- wanting to get pregnant again) after using coil contraception? i have heard many people have a hard time getting pregnant again.

Re: Coil- contraception

It differs I guess with everyone, but in my sisters case, no problem whatsoever, and also another girlfriend of mine got pregnant 2 months after having her IUD removed.

In all cases of the IUD, of family and some friends…no problems. I have the copper IUD…just cos i didn’t want the hormonal one. The copper one usually causes heavier periods…but that’s abt it. Mirena is pretty awesome cos ur periods get lighter and lighter…but of the t-shaped coils…it’s meant to the most painful in insertion cos it’s larger. Other than that both are the same. And no problem getting pregnant once ur off either of them…with Mirena i think u have to wait for a 2-3 months max (to get regular cycles again, since it’s hormonal)…but the copper one pregnancy is possible the moment you take it out.

When i got the copper one it didn’t hurt much at all…just a second maybe more…and then i was fine. The best time to get one is around ur period…cervix is soft…easier to place the IUD.
