You need to be fanatically clean. Basically, crumbs and bits of food and grease left around are food for the bugs and if you get rid of it they won't be able to eat.
So clean (wash and wipe) all corners, counters, sweep and wash the floor regularly, clean behind and under cabinets and counters, put all food into airtight containers, and make sure the air can circulate.
first of all make sure that there are no holes in the walls or any small passage in the room through which a cockroach can get inside your room.
Some years ago I went to Dow medical college in Karachi to visit my cousin. Their class was disecting cockroaches that day. He asked me to give it a try. At one point in the disection you have to blow thru a thin tube to remove the fluid from the roach, when I was about to blow I had a hichki and fluid actually came into my mouth. It didnt taste too bad, kinda saltish and sweet at the same time.

ewwwwww Birdie. We actually had to form a slide of its mouth parts. At one point you had to take its tongue out with a forcep and god YUCK it felt so icky icky icky as the tongue slipped outta his body.

At what point in a medical college do you dissect coakraoaches??? we did do in F.Sc. and we actually dared a girl to kiss one for a treat... but who are you kidding???
Just to let you guys know, Dow Med. has graduated from the large a$$ roaches to frail lookin frogs for dissection purposes.
