Coalition - To be or not to be

The big question nowadays is whether NS should pull the PML[N] out of the coalition or not. Aug 14th is an important deadline for this matter. The pros and cons for PML[N] are:

Pros

  • Gives them a chance to become the most popular party in Pakistan again
  • Augment the lawyers movement considerably, which has been loosing steam recently
  • Might push the ANP out of the coalition as well
  • They can openly expose Zardari’s intentions, as far as the deal with Musharraf is concerned (Afterall they have alot of experience with handling Zardari)

Cons

  • Strengthens the presidency
  • Puts their Punjab govt at risk, with Taseer’s appt as governor the PPP has given a clear signal they are ready to disrupt it
  • Gives a chance to the almost crippled PML[Q] to regroup and join the PPP under new leadership

I personally think they should pull out of the coalition pretty soon.

Pa jee your thread is alive and is jumping around , from PA it has jumped into S&N .:CareBear:

Re: Coalition - To be or not to be

Re: Coalition - To be or not to be

Spock- I reversed titles for Pros and Cons (mainly because of my bias against PMLN). The comments I have added, are unbiased though.

CONS
- Gives them a chance to become the most popular party in Pakistan again - I DOUBT IT
- Augment the lawyers movement considerably, which has been loosing steam recently - AGREED
- Might push the ANP out of the coalition as well - I DON'T THINK SO
- They can openly expose Zardari's intentions, as far as the deal with Musharraf is concerned (Afterall they have alot of experience with handling Zardari) - EVERYBODY KNOWS ZARDARI'S INTENSIONS.

PROS
- Strengthens the presidency - YES IT WILL
- Puts their Punjab govt at risk, with Taseer's appt as governor the PPP has given a clear signal they are ready to disrupt it - SURE, BUT PMLN IS TOO STRONG IN PUNJAB
- Gives a chance to the almost crippled PML[Q] to regroup and join the PPP under new leadership
- YEAH. SOMEHOW AWAMI PARY OF SHIEKH RASHID AHMED MAY ALSO GET IN

Mashallah. Another deadline to look forward to. :)

Re: Coalition - To be or not to be

The alliance is un-natural to begin with, the only "binding" force in this alliance is Mush but even that is not-much-so in case of Zardari (no matter how much he hates him or gives statements against Mush). Lets say one day Mush is removed then what will this "coalition" do? They will get to their basics again i.e. pant pulling (or in their case shalwar-pulling).

Just for the sake of democracy PML-N should be in opposition otherwise theres not much check'n'balance against Zardari's PPP.

Well, NS says his party will not quit the coalition.

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) – Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Monday that his party will not quit the coalition led by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) although it is not satisfied with what the PPP has done.

“PPP did not fulfill promises especially on deposed judges’ issue, but we do not want to quit the coalition,” said the chief of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) at a press conference in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore. “We want to keep the coalition intact.”

Sharif is scheduled to meet with PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday in Islamabad.

“Our Islamabad meeting tomorrow should be meaningful and resultful,” he said.

Sharif claimed that the PPP was not taking keen interest in resolving deposed judges. He also blamed the PPP for current price hike.

Sharif disclosed that the PPP did not take PML-N in confidence for launching operation against militants in the northwestern Pakistani district of Swat.

I'd hate to see the coalition government fail but when people elect criminals....

I dont know whether it should be called a coalition or crook-alition

Its still better than crooks electing themselves, like they did in the last regime.

Let’s hope they can finalize the deal tomorrow. Looks like no decision reached today. :frowning:

The Asian Age - Enjoy the difference

******Zardari, Sharif deadlock continues

******Islamabad, Aug. 5: The crucial talks between PPP chairman Asif Ali Zardari and PML(N) chief Nawaz Sharif to resolve differences over restoration of deposed judges and the impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf ended inconclusively on Tuesday, putting their fragile coalition in jeopardy.

The marathon six-hour parleys held in delegation-level and one-to-one formats apparently failed to break the ice between the two coalition partners, with Mr Sharif making a hasty exit from the venue without talking to waiting media.

PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar told reporters that Mr Zardari and Mr Sharif are expected to meet again on Wednesday.

However, Mr Zardari is scheduled to leave for Beijing on Wednesday to attend the Olympic Games opening ceremony.

The meeting, dubbed by political observers as a “make or break” one for the over four-month-old coalition, was held at Zardari’s residence here.

Mr Sharif and Mr Zardari had held several meetings in the last few months but could not arrive at a consensus over the two major issues. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Mr Sharif made it clear that he intended to make the meet “as decisive as possible”.

Re: Coalition - To be or not to be

LEts hope they dont.

i see it worse electing a crook.....if they elect themselves at least the nation cant be blamed for a poor choice....

if PML-N pulls out.......what are the chances that some of the PPP rebel against Zardari? surely some members of the PPP will begin to look at how Zardari is destroying the party credentials
