Coach Pybus ponders Pakistan future

Pakistan coach Richard Pybus says he is considering whether to continue in the job after the team’s successful tour of England.

Pybus, given a short-term contract just before the tour after Javed Miandad was sacked, said he had been asked to sign a new deal.

Pakistan drew the two-test series 1-1 before losing out to Australia in a one-day triangular series also involving hosts England that ended on Saturday.

``I have had discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), but first I want to let my head clear after this tour,‘’ he said.

The South African-based Pybus, speaking before the team’s departure on Monday, said PCB chairman Lieutenant General Tauqir Zia wanted him to continue in his role.

But Pybus said: ``I have a young daughter back home and I have to work out my priorities.

``Really, the ball is in my court. Pakistan need somebody to go through to the 2003 World Cup.

``It’s a privilege to work with such world class players but I have to decide whether I am ready to commit myself for that length of time.‘’

Pakistan have changed their coach nine times in four years.

Pybus, the only foreigner to coach the team, helped Pakistan reach the 1999 World Cup in England but was sacked after a three-month rein. He made his name with South African side Border.
