CO2 as an energy asset

Coal fired plants typically vent the co2 effluent into the atmosphere. NRG Energy plans to capture co2 from its coal plant emissions and pipe it to an oil filed 80 miles away. Expected to increase production 30 fold from 500 barrels per day. Project cost 1 billion $.

No numbers were provided in terms of energy saved for oil production. Previously co2 was used from underground caverns or from Nat gas processing facilities or fertilizer plants. So I guess this is simply an additional co2 source.

I would assume all of the co2 eventually would to to atmosphere.
