Re: co signer for a student loan
You can’t get a private loan such as this?

And you can’t expect your friends to help out with this stuff. It’s one thing to lend money to a friend, and another thing to put your name and social security number down for a loan.
Re: co signer for a student loan
well if you dont go to ur close friends for help, who else would u really ask? and i KNOW of ppl who have asked their friends and have been helped out..
Re: co signer for a student loan
It's risky business. I know someone who put down his name on his BIL's (wife's brother) student. Well, the student didn't turn out to be very responsible and didn't make payments on time. As a result, the co-signer's history was ruined. You know how he found out that his BIL had not been making payments? When the co-signer went to apply for a car loan and was denied. He was shocked and that's when he found out. Needless to say that he pulled his name out and there was tension in the family.
I can't think of places who give out loans but there are ads on TV all the times. Places approve loans in as few days as 7 days. Yes the rates would be higher than banks etc. but you really have no other choice. Look around on web and good luck.
Re: co signer for a student loan
How old are you, and are you just starting school?
Try scholarships. Avoid asking friends to co-sign - that's too much of a burden. No intelligent person would do that for a "friend". Many parents, even, don't do that for their kids, and you're expecting friends to help you.
Talk to the school you're going to - talk to their financial advisor about work study, etc
It might require that your parents declare you financially independent and they stop claiming you as their dependent on their taxes.
Re: co signer for a student loan
One more option, work and go to school part time.
