Let’s see who becomes the next CNS. It’s going to be the first high level military appointment after installation of the new govt and with the powers in Mr Zardari’s claws. Will there be a surprise or will they play it smooth and let the senior most deserving officer take the slot like Gen Musharraf allowed Gen Kayani. Let’s see.
Vice Admirals Asif Humayan and Noman Bashir are said to be senior most officers at the moment.
CJCSC hosts Iftar for outgoing naval chief
Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Tariq Majid Sunday hosted a dinner reception in honour of Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir, who is due to retire early next month.
According to an ISPR press release, senior civil and military dignitaries including Secretary Defence Kamran Rasool, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Army Staff and Air Chief Marshal Tanveer Mahmood Ahmed, Chief of the Air Staff also attended the dinner.
While lauding the naval chief’s distinguished service, CJCSC General Tariq Majid said that Admiral Tahir would be remembered for the invaluable services he rendered to the armed forces and Pakistan Navy over a long and illustrious career spanning 40 years.
The CJCSC said that during Admiral Tahirís tenure as the naval chief, some fresh initiatives taken, have aligned the Pakistan Navy with contemporary concepts of maritime security and have given reckonable projection and exposure to the service at international level.
