CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads
Daily Times Monitor

LAHORE: A maverick ‘academic’ based in Europe has been buying airtime on CNN for the past two weeks to advertise his book, ‘Divide Pakistan to eliminate terrorism’, according to a report in the Times of India

The 15-second spot, which is aired every day, charges Pakistan with terrorist activities across the world and says the only way to stop this is to split the country into half a dozen separate entities, including Sindhudesh, Jinnahpur, Balochistan and Pakhtunistan, says the report.

The author of the book, which is being sold on Amazon.com for $ 15.95, is Syed Jamaluddin, who describes himself in a blog (www.dividepakistan.blogspot.com ) as a British citizen and a chartered accountant with a degree in conflict management.

On Amazon, he is described as ‘’an active writer on issues concerning Pakistan’s involvement in various terrorist activities in the South Asian region’’. He was ‘’forced to leave Pakistan after the military coup of General Musharraf in 1999’.’ It says he also ‘’liased with political and religious parties of Pakistan as well as government agencies’.’

Washington’s think-tank circuit, where Pakistani scholars and commentators are frequent visitors, has no idea who Syed Jamaluddin is. The conjecture is he is a disgruntled spook out to embarrass Pakistan, which is already seen by many in the United States as the “grand central — if not a sponsor — of terrorism”. .

Indian officials too said they had no idea of the book or the author. One official visiting Washington from New Delhi, when told about the ad, joked that dividing Pakistan was a terrible idea. ‘’One is bad enough - who wants to deal with four or five?’’

According to the jacket notes for the book on Amazon, ‘Divide Pakistan to eliminate terrorism’ is “‘Syed Jamaluddin’s vision to address issues related to combating terrorism emanating from Pakistan which have dramatically transformed the entire region into a systematically controlled network having vicious effects on global peace”.’ This book, it says, gives an in depth analysis about the role of Pakistan’s intelligence agencies and the Tablighi Jamaat in producing future terrorists. The book also claims to provide ‘’specific information about the actual tactics” of the intelligence agencies and Tablighi Jamaat and their strategy “to disrupt international peace in the name of Islamisation of the world”. Jamaluddin, who declares General Musharraf a “terrorist in uniform”, has also been circulating an online petition calling Pakistan’s division .

Pakistani diplomats in the US, who toil ceaselessly to counter critical newspaper editorials by writing plaintive letters to editors, seem to be stumped by the ad, which usually airs in the morning. A 30-second prime time spot on CNN can cost as much as $ 20,000.

I encourage everyone to post on his blog and teach him a lesson.!

Maybe someone can come up with a counter blog.

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

Why is this guy who is Mohajir so upset with Pakistan when the Pres, PM and numerous Generals are Mohajir?

Anyways, nobody has heard of him, don't give him the oxygen of publicity

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

Some people have to much time on their hands... The Pakistan govt has to be incompetant beyond belief if they dont tackle this head on... I dont care about the no body, but CNN has no right to air such adds and Pakistan shouldnt stand for it.
Im sure if this was India, they wouldnt have allowed this. They dont even allow maps with a seperate Kashmir to be published!

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

Are these ads aired in CNN Europe, CNN International, CNN Asia or CNN US.

Has anyone seen these ads.

Maybe US government is sponsoring these ads. US is thinking of Post-Musharraf Pakistan.

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

This could be a reason…in fact a few newspaper reports suggest US views.

Have read this recently in NY Times..

Also based on this one more news below.

Is US ready to dump Mush?

WASHINGTON: The writing seems to be on the wall for Pakistan’s military ruler Pervez Musharraf. Uncle Sam, the General’s patron-in-chief, is showing signs of cashiering his favoured stooge and preparing grounds for his succession.

Washington is quietly dispensing with the ‘‘Musharraf is indispensable’’ argument that has kept the dictator in power for more than seven years. Except for a few diehards in the state department, many in the Bush administration, Congress, and the strategic community have privately begun talking of alternate scenarios.

A spate of articles in the US media pillorying Musharraf has set the tone for a change. In the latest such salvo, a key CIA official rubbished the popular theory that radical Islamists would take over Pakistan (and its nuclear weapons) if Musharraf was ousted, and maintained with some confidence that he would just be replaced by another general.

“I am not particularly worried about an extremist government coming to power and getting hold of nuclear weapons,” Robert Richer, who was CIA associate director of operations in 2004 and 2005 told the *New York Times *.

‘‘If something happened to Musharraf tomorrow, another general would step in.’’

Based on the succession plan, the vice-chief of the army, Gen Ahsan Saleem Hayat, would take over as the leader of the army and Mohammed Mian Soomro, an ex-banker, would become president, the paper said on Sunday. It did not attribute the statement to Richer and did not explain whose ‘‘succession plan’’ it was.

But the commentary gave voice to the growing view in Washington that Musharraf has been milking the US using the bogey of the mullahs taking over.

‘‘The fear within Washington that Islamic extremism has become a dominant force in Pakistan has been stoked in part by Musharraf himself,” the paper said.

‘‘Some analysts say his warnings are used to maintain a steady flow of American aid and keep at bay demands from Washington for democratic reforms. He often invokes the dangers of Islamic radicalism when meeting American officials in Washington and Islamabad.’’

Following increased pressure from Washington to deliver results in the war on terror and Musharraf’s evident fall from grace in recent weeks, Pakistan’s envoy to US, Gen Mahmud Durrani, rushed to the press last week to warn that such public demands on Musharraf could result in his ouster and Pakistan’s destabilisation.

But judging by the tone of the latest commentary, Washington is not impressed by the argument and is ready for a change in Pakistan if Musharraf does not deliver.

While state department officials have valiantly defended Musharraf for years with the ‘‘indispensable frontline ally’’ argument, such domestic excesses, and the cup of complaints from the military, intelligence, and strategic community runneth over

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

It's odd that the only news sources running this are desi sources.

Not to mention that it is extremely unlikely that CNN would actually air such an ad by such an unknown person, given that it would endanger their reporting rights in Pakistan.

This sound to me to be more a rumour than anything else. Someone is trying to get publicity for his book by inventing a scandal about it.

Remember how Salman Rushdie only ever became really rich and famous because of the uproar Muslims made about his books? This guy is trying to emulate to same thing, methinks.

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

Heh hehe. As I said elsewhere, this is a bogus thing - a scam created by Indians.

CNN Denies airing ad:D

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

LOL.. On his blog site he had a video which opens with a crowd cheering and clapping, only to find him sitting in front of a white sheet in his living... Home made pseudo intelectual stupidity at its finest.

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

The guy looks like a Bangladeshi. He even has half of his blogspot page devoted to talking about the '71 war and regurgitating all the already disproved propaganda.

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

^ biggest problem in dividing pakistan is pakis them self.
Cuz
we won't let that happen. Who ever wants it please come in side of pakistan.
And we will take good care of you.

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

you guys are giving ideas to those idoits who are already creating problems in the country,

indian govt objected when shipa shetty has been racily insulted in a UK TV show, then this is more serious issue then that why can pak govt take active steps on this

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

Look guys this is India's obsession with Pakistan. I have been reading Hindustan Times and Times Of India for 5-6 years now and they do not let any opportunity go by without putting some negative news about Pakistan. It is a record that every day their newspapers carry something or the other negative about Pakistan. I have no idea why this obsession. The paper I respect from India is The Hindu only
In contrast if you look at the mainstream papers from Pakistan, India is hardly mentioned.
And what also gets to me is why Pakistani channels are not allowed in democratic India? We have a dictator who lets us watch all Indian channels but it is not reciprocated in India. I just find it strange

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

They did not, this is just another one of those desperate hoax.

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

Added to all this, we also have to face an irrationally hostile Western media aided and abetted by our own disgruntled/hostile elements. The latest salvo fired in this context is the case of the CNN airing "Divide Pakistan" advertisements — and then having aired them long enough, denying any culpability! The fact is that someone calling himself Syed Jamaluddin is hawking his book "Divide Pakistan to Eliminate Terrorism" on Amazon.com and has been buying time on CNN — 15 minute spots — to advertise the book by charging Pakistan with global terrorism and suggesting the only solution is to split the country into four parts!

It was not too long ago that the US Armed Forces Journal printed an article by Ralph Peters, where it was recommended that all powerful Muslim states be divided — including Pakistan. Interestingly, the division suggested by this so-called Jamaluddin is not dissimilar to the one suggested by the Ralph Peters article, "Blood Borders"! Another interesting point to ponder over is the money available to this Jamaluddin since a 30-second prime time spot on CNN costs at least $20,000. So who is providing the funding for these damaging anti-Pakistan ads on CNN and why did CNN allow itself to be used in this fashion?

Re: CNN airing ‘Divide Pakistan’ ads

First divide Pakistan, then sell it off. How convenient. :hehe:
