Club ISNA

Did anyone go this past Labor Day Weekend? Did anyone participate in the Matrimonials? Have you ever gone to ISNA and tried to meet someone.

The below article describes exactly what I’ve heard.

Looking for Love and Finding Awkwardness at ISNA

But I know people who have found their spouses there!

Re: Club ISNA

Haha the article is hilarious! The guy with the tailored suit took away the trophy sort of. This event sounds awkwardly hilarious, especially the guy who doodled organs for 3 minutes. Poor guy is probably too nerdy.

This sort of reminds me of this time I was stuck in transit in an airport in pakistan and some guy from my flight from the US started chatting with me out of the blue and was telling me he's a doctor etc, trying to get my name so he can add me on Facebook. Then I sort of slipped into the conversation that I am married, poor guy was lost after that. Lollll

Re: Club ISNA

Loved the article and especially the comments underneath. Thanks PCG for a interesting read. x

Re: Club ISNA

One of the masjids in the area had a marriage something or other lecture going on.

Imagine the gasps, shock, and laughter when one of the members who visits ISNA every year started pointing out the couples in our community who had met via ISNA and gotten married. Some couples have been married for over 20 years. Some I assumed to be very rigid and the demanding types, but to find out they 'met' through ISNA.. well .. they were squirming in their seats.

A young teenager also found out her parents met through ISNA, and her gasps and "what, you guys never told me THAT" had us all laughing quite uncontrollably !

Re: Club ISNA

I went to a similar (not ISNA event) years ago and the writer has described it spot on :hehe:

Re: Club ISNA

“Imagine a club, with no music, no dancing, and no drinks, full of people who have no idea how to approach someone of the opposite sex — appropriately or not. The recirculated air pumped the aromatic mélange of cologne, perfume, and body odor back into the festering hive of hormones that is the lobby scene.”

:rotfl:

What does he mean “drop the strutting and wannabe Zoolander faces”? That’s my go-to move.

But yes, hilarious read PCG.

:omg:

Re: Club ISNA

Thanks for sharing PCG. This was hilarious...

But, dont let this stop you from attending. Its still one of the best ways to meet a lot of people especially for those who live in small towns with no desi population.

Re: Club ISNA

I have never been to one of these things, precisely because of these types of articles. Everyone in college made fun of club ISNA. I was surprised though to find later, that some of the girls who made fun of it, later were advising me to try it because it worked for them and people they knew.

Rule number 1 (my parents taught me and I forget): Do not listen to other people.

These events will be better if more reasonable people attend, and maybe what they need is supervision of the douchebaggery. Maybe younger couples with kids who can attend, and watch the guys at the hookah bars, and actually intervene if they are harassing people or acting rude.

Or maybe some religious tips, from the religious lecturers at the events. It's like ISNA ignores what goes on and refuses to comment on the stupidity. Maybe if Siraj Wahaj preached the women to talk to men other than docs/engineers, and if he advised the men on how to appropriately approach women and talk to all the women, not just the pretty ones, and not start demanding they sit at home in the first conversation, it would help.

Our community does not teach our men to be open to working women, so the lady docs get shafted all the time.
