Calling all brummi girls - especially you brummie bird
Going to birmingham next week due to work so i thought whilst im there I may aswell take advantage and take a look at the shops..
Can anyone recommend some shops that I should visit ideally looking for formal semi formal pakistani clothes?
Thank you x
Re: Clothes Shopping In Birmingham
I have only been to Brum a couple of times, and just went to Stratford Road and Ladypool Road.
The former is good for fabric, but there are some boutiques too, unfortunately I don't know the names, but they were very reasonable.A linen type with embroidery and panels was for £25-40,and the more formal type fabrics for £39 onwards.
Ladypool Road,I thought was for more formal/wedding wear.
I'm sure brummie will be able to provide more valuable advice...:)

^ thank you i went many moons ago looking forward to visiting especially Akbars restaurant :)
Re: Clothes Shopping In Birmingham
Hun I wouldn't bother! If u like the lovely pakistani stuff, you'll be disappointed. The prices are high and the quality is total bukwaas. I avoid buying stuff. I know that sounds harsh but I work hard for my money and find it hard to cough up for second rate goods! In the past when I have needed stuff I have bought from riwaaj (right at the end of alum rock), junaid jamshed on stratford rd and a shop called dhanak also on stratford rd. There is a new shop on alum rock called munfrid designs and they claim to have all the latest designs. I've checked out their fb but not really impressed. I might POP down today if I get a chance and feed back. But what I do like in brum is the jewellery, bangles and earrings. Quite a few good places like rangoli and gungroos. Hope this helps
Re: Clothes Shopping In Birmingham
Thanks for your reviews I may now cancel my trip to the desi shops & go bull ring shopping instead hooray.. I know exactly what u mean hun about paying for 2nd rate goods.. I live not to far from southall and boy they have some utter trashy clothes from pak so called latest design which they sell for insanely high prices.. wouldnt be to bothered if it were actually worth it everything from the material to embroidery is naff!..
Appreciate the honestly love it just saves me time let me know about munfrid designs.. x
Re: Clothes Shopping In Birmingham
How strange is that brummie!!!....
I have totally different views.I didn't really like the jewellery, but thought the clothes were quite good for the price..:D
Shazzy....know what you mean re Southall.Absolute rubbish and the same crap in all the shops...however have you been upstairs in that little boutique called 'jaano' or something?.Whenever I've been in there, there have been one or two I could have lived with.My friend says there are a couple of new places opened where they have some decent stuff. If I get a chance I'll check it out and let you know.
There is a lady in Stanmore who does some ready made outfits and they are sposed to be reasonable.Am going to see her on Friday..so will report back if you are interested.:)
Charmed oh i know the one jaan boutique its where ive been getting my eid clothes for the last 2 years they do some nice clothes that are frm pak for 45 plus Oh yay let me knw if its worth visiting her.... X
Re: Clothes Shopping In Birmingham
Yaar CO, you've got more patience than me :) i went down the rock today, yep my one day off after ages and what do i do, spend it browsing down the rock. There are some nicely styled outfits but the kapra is sooooooooo awful that u could cry :( oh yes, this might sound dramatic but who in their right mind would spend £150 on an outfit made out of the jaalee u see on net curtains???? Munfrid had a couple of nice suits which i could see myself buying but compared to the amount of stuff they had in there, I did expect more suits that i would like. Instead there were lots of suits made up of random panels that didnt go together, almost as if they had kapra left over from other outfits and thought they'd try and make a couple of outfits from the left overs! but to be fair not as bad as some of the shops.
If uyou're in brum Shazzy, u've got to pay a the rock a visit, its an experience in itself and I think you need to see the stuff for yourself :)
Re: Clothes Shopping In Birmingham
Shazzy....will let you know how the Stanmore trip turns out...fingers crossed!!
brummie...never been to Alum Rock,so can't say really what the quality is like but will avoid it in future..;).Really does sound awful...but full marks to you for spending your day off there in the interest of research...well done!!!!..:D
You know for jewellry,I love Bees in Green Street.Have been going there for years now,and the choice and quality is brill.Usually pop in to Kyles too,but that is pricey.

Hehehee...great minds and all...It was my cousin who first took me to G Street 'cos my mami does all her shopping from there!....and oh my,the bangles. In every colour and hue...delicious!.In those days,it was a double shop with clothes as well, but they were a tad naff..lol.
Went there a few weeks ago and they had this to die for bangle but they would not budge from ££££'s..:(...there were three of us and we would all have bought one.
Re: Clothes Shopping In Birmingham
If you do come down B'ham, Alum Rock is definetly a place to visit. Also Soho Rd in Handsworth is good for readymade Indian/Pakistani dresses. You can also visit Small Heath too.
Let us know if you did come down n what you made of it. :)
