cloth nappy or diappers ?

I want to know that for new borns is it harmful to use diappers ? i think it’s perfectly fine to use diappers as hospitals also use it. But my inlaws are creating much fuss abt it that i shd use cloth nappies , wash them and re-use them. I want to use diappers as i feel that they are more absorbent .

Re: cloth nappy or diappers ?

Well, if you are in the US, I would highly recommend disposable diapers because they are cheap and work real well given that we don't have maids to clean floors after babies do pee pee or potty that leaks through the nappies. Moreover, here most homes are carpeted and that would make it even more hard. Think about it, when your baby pees, the wet nappy makes the baby all wet unlike diapers that soak up the wetness and a quick wipe dries out the baby so diaper rash situations are minimized.

BUTTTTT, if you are back home, perhaps diapers may be more costly and because of the incredible heat, your baby may break out in rashes if in a diaper all day. Plus, you will have someone to help wash up.

Re: cloth nappy or diappers ?

cost is not the issue. I have been saving money for my baby and to make my baby comfortable and rash free I dont mind spending at all .

thats what i have been explaining to my inlaws that diapers absorbs wetness and leaves the baby skin dry whereas cloth nappy is not that absorbent.

Re: cloth nappy or diappers ?

no baby is coming in winter Insha Allah :) ...so heat is not the issue.

Re: cloth nappy or diappers ?

^why are your inlaws deciding what should be used for the baby?

Re: cloth nappy or diappers ?

^ well, yeah, thats a good point.
in canada they have services for cloth nappies- such as Home - Happy Nappy Diaper Service - they drop off a clean bundle for a week, pick up the dirty diapers at the end of the week and drop off some more fresh ones in place but it costs a bit more than a disposable diaper, i believe.
but as niksik pointed out, i’ve found out thru friends that you have to be very careful in terms of cleaning up their pees and poos quickly so they don’t get rashes. however, cloth diapers are wayyy more environmentally friendly whereas most disposables just sit in landfills for decades. just something to think about.
in the end, really, its your choice and you have to do whats right for your baby. you need to get that across to your inlaws in a friendly way.

Re: cloth nappy or diappers ?

Do your inlaws live with you? if not i would just ignore them. IF they do, maybe ask their help in washing the cloth diapers? :D Btw i have gotten teh same attitude from some family back home and they kind of look down upon me using disposible diapers but since i dont have to deal with them in my life daily, i dont care.

Re: cloth nappy or diappers ?

I think more and more people are starting to use the reusable cloth ones. The dispoable ones are really bad for the environment and and every year millions and millions and millions are being added to the landfills where they just sit and dont decompose. Also cloth diapers now arent the like ones from our grandparents time, they dont leak all over the place. Anyways I dont have kids so I dont know that much about diapers, but I think you should look more into cloth diapers, Im sure they have websites dedicated specifically just to that

Re: cloth nappy or diappers ?

^ whats up with that?? lol

on topic, this seriously seems like the perfect compromise in the cloth nappy vs. diapers debate- gDiapers - Eco-friendly diapers that are colorful, cute and easy.

has anyone used these?

Re: cloth nappy or diappers ?

i’ve been reading up on these eco-friendly, and here’s an article i came across:

Source

Re: cloth nappy or diappers ?

^ that quote is somewhat misleading... the rest of the article says that the claim you've quoted above is unsubstantiated and no proof exists yet of whether one is more environmentally friendly/better for baby than the other because no one has actually done any comparative studies.

From the same article:
"There are downsides to both," Berkeley's Hayes said. "It's a tossup of which is worst: wasting our water supply (washing cloth diapers after every use) or filling up our landfills (using disposables)."

i guess it comes down to your budget and your personal preferences.

Re: cloth nappy or diappers ?

every time inlaws creates problemss....:) disposable napies are easy to go with same with this pee and untidy problems we have to say prayers may be some time we event know where the child has placed the mess all around may b different places until he/she is able to tell.
