After not having been on for what seems like an eternity, I realized I still have an account on this forum. Not intending to use the account again for anything other than effecting its closing, how do I go about closing the account? Must I go through some formal channel or protocol? Is this notice enough? I only posted because I didn’t discover the info listed anywhere.

There is no deactivating feature available. You can simply stop using the account.

you have 537 posts. Only way to really deactivate your account is to delete it that would delete/alter your 537 posts which would disrupt the flow of many threads, more so at the places where people quoted you.
Second thing is that your identity is hidden behind your username. Who would know who roxx is (but you), so its history simply if you stop using it.

Who is the ‘someoen’ who ‘would want to close it or reopen’ my account without my express permission? I can only hope that, were I successful in closing my account, ‘someoen’ wouldn’t be able to then ‘reopen it’ without my consent or knowledge.

Funny, I guess I just assumed it was **when you wrote that 'Only way to really deactivate your account is to delete it**'. I've actually never noticed GS mods or admins exercise much in the way of restraint when it comes to deleting member posts, so I can't understand why the director of the forum couldn't do so when a member is expressly requesting it (assuming that the only means by which to close a member account is deletion).

i think you could ‘attack’ someone from the mod team…that will get u banned…end of story
