You don't need to stop his clinginess ... just get up and do some work and ask him to help out ... not only will your work be done, but it will be facilitated to a quicker end by his presence and help and if he gets tired of the work - he'll stop being clingy ... it's a win win for you ...

Sit in his lap while watching tv, as he goes into the bathroom ask "Whatcha doing", twirl his hair as you watch tv, invade his personal space as much as you can. Ask to paint his toe nails and give him a makeover....I think he may get the idea.
