Cliche's that hold true

Some of the most often quoted cliches around the world are rarely seen as true. But is that truly the case.

The two i keep hearing are:
For a Girl: Girls marry men like their fathers
For a guy: Guys marry women like their mothers

The other is opposites attract.

Do you think these are true in your personal experience?

Re: Cliche's that hold true

Nope and nope.

Re: Cliche's that hold true

^^ Agree..

Re: Cliche's that hold true

I hope not for my sake anyway

Re: Cliche's that hold true

My hubby is NOTHING like my father (thank god)!

I am nothing like his mother. She is a very nice lady but too submissive a wife. I would shoot myself if I had to be as submissive as her.

Re: Cliche's that hold true

My fiance is a lot like my father, but my father is an awesome husband and dad so I lucked out. I did gravitate towards him because he exuded the same qualities. I can say without a shadow of doubt in my mind that I am not anything like his mother! LOL

Re: Cliche's that hold true

I am a LOT like her father and she is NOTHING like my mother.

I guess we are opposites. She's a serious, responsible human being, I'm not.

Re: Cliche's that hold true

Nope to both.
I woulda though people look for spouses the opposite of their parents.

Re: Cliche's that hold true

I had a sociology teacher who actually told us that men do indeed marry women similar to their mothers. Not exactly the same (submissive vs non-submissive like someone mentioned), but with similar traits. He also said that opposites attract is not very common, it's simply more noticeable when two people who are polar opposites end up together. In general, people tend to gravitate towards those who are similar.
