Classroom Punishments

My teachers made me Murgha, made me stand on the bench, at the corner facing wall, hit my hands with rulers ..

anything else ?

Once a male teacher did beat me silly … stupid teacher …

Why do we think that physical or mental torture to kids would discipline them well …

or we just dont worry about the long term consequences and looking for instant solution by slapping the kid or yelling at him/her

Re: Classroom Punishments

They did not know better. Same kind of corporal punishments were used in western world too. Their research , education and progress changed the things.
Our parents and teachers knew only these methods of disciplining the kids, some teachers were sadists though. Things are changing in Indo-Pak too. Private schools do not use these kinds of punishments anymore specially the high end ones.

:(.................SPARE the ROD and SPOIL the CHILD...................:(

That is a very old..............tried and Tested Western Philosophy..........until more recent times...

Re: Classroom Punishments

One time I got a thappar from my teacher in 5th grade.our school had a strict"no hitting policy"…And I repirted that …and got a looong apology with the lecture ffrom the teacher that I love you guys lke my own kids and thats why I slapped you:naraz:

And there was this Qari sahab of ours that used to bring a stick with him…One time he nearly poked my eye out with it……I told ami and after that no stick:D

Re: Classroom Punishments

Have you guys seen the Movie “Tare Zameen Par”…heart felt movie about “our desi” way of teaching kids"…I saw it yesterday:k:

they try to teach you a lesson in one go Tlk try to understand

and what lesson was that Dua?

that I am the one for them

I studied in a christian school & college and if we touched the flowers, the nuns would hit us gently on our fingers with a ruler and say: Oh dear, don’t touch the pretty creations of God!

Yeah Like I was a creation of the devil! :snooty:

Well that’s still better than what I heard from other kids in other schools.

true true

I dont wish I could hit the little buggers but sometimes I do wish I could tell them to just shut up and leave me alone!

Its so annoying to have to hear 'Miss Milly, Miss Milly' x 300 in one minute x 5 children every minute of the day!

Re: Classroom Punishments

^^ :hehe:

good to hear a Teacher’s perspective on this topic

Re: Classroom Punishments

had a teacher twist my nose once... man did that hurt or what...

also... our qaari saab used to sandwich a pencil between the fingers - ouch!!

those are the two that I can remember.

Frog jumps were pretty common too.

And do you know what they want to tell me?

'so and so looked at me when he was meant to be looking at you'

'X is wearing his jumper inside and its hot'

' i drank my water before I ate my sandwich'

All they do is tell tales! I cant stand it.

You gotta love them though. This one kid reckons hes allergic to paper so he cant do any writing.

I showed him the First Aid box, and informed him that I knew how to use it, so if he had any more trouble with his arm, just call me and i'd fix it right up.

Suprisingly, he did the most amount of work after that one.
