STA my dear.. as far as I know Punjabi.. Kanjri doesn't mean prostitute. It means dancing girl. if it meant prostitute. Bulleh Shah never had said ' Nach Nach ke yaar manawa gi, paawe kanjri banena pe jawe'

IMO it just requires us to be fair. We look down on ladies of the night but give their customers a free pass. The former are definitely higher up in my view. They do it to bring food to the table.

In old times I ppl hv to travel to a certain place to see mujras whereas nowadays u can easily see on tv...see Natgis on AAJ tv! Ppl wanna ban the stage dramas due to vulgarity now they hv vulgarity in tv talk shows as well...

When we read classic literature revolving around tawaif, it has been portrayed very positively. Even there was a time, when they made movies on this topic. They were restricted to a particular area, but restrictions made them leave those areas and spread any where and do their business.
