i was born and bred and live in the uk…but im pakistani also…British Asian
anyway …problem is that i would like to live the life of a gori…meaning just wearing the clothes…jeans, tops but not those clothes dat look bad and i dnt want to drink or eat haram stuff.
but then i also hve to adher to the islamic ways and pakistani cluture…
wen i wear english clothes then it feels as if im letting go of my traditional values and if im wearing traditional clothes im tempted to wear english clothes…it feels as if im in a no win situation either way:rolleyes: …im wondering is there a way in between this?
Islam and culture are two totally different things. The worst possible thing you can do is to mix the two. That is where all the confusion comes in. You can be ‘western’ while still adhering to Islamic laws. The only advantage of going with the Paki culture is that it revolves around Islamic values to a certain extent, so the ground work is done for you. If you decide to live the life of a gori while not transgressing the boundaries of Islam, you would need to have a very clear understanding of Islam and must be strong in faith. Just don’t end up like one of the Muslimah’s who cover their heads with a Hijaab, but below the neck … anything goes
Dont' confuse Islam and Pakistani culture. Anyone who says you wearing jeans or teeshirts weakens your "pakiness" is a moron. And if you decide to wear a hijab over jeans and shirt and someoen says ur not covering properly unless u wear abaya, salwar kameez, long thermal underwaer and THEN a big girdle/granny panty, just needs to get a life :D
he shararti bachi, the thing to emember here (and i know i might get other views from Guppies) is to wear wot u want as long as the shape of cannot be seem (tight clothing)
there r ways around it, eg. jeans with kurta that covers the waist area. and short sleeve clothing instead of sleeveless.
also u can wear short kameez and a-shaped trousers instead of the lonnnng kameez and clothy shalwar!
who says jeans and teeshirts have to be tight and show skin? I never wore abaya or salwar kmeez wen i did hijab and I think i did a fine job covering myself. and the big underwear/thermal , i was referring to how some idiots think thongs are haram to wear
thanks but i do wear kurta kameez type things with jeans…but i dnt wear tight jeans or anything like that tho…yet i still want to wear dresses that are a bit gora
your friend who had a “discussion” with me the other day in the cafe…is having an influence on you. whether u realise it or not. I mean check out wot she said to you that day. and then she got all red when I spoke up.
i agree with u IMPULSE why do we wanna be like them. Hey SHARARTI BACHI, if something inside is stopping u wearing dresses (like u said pehle) then maybe u shouldnt wear dresses.
To me it seems that u dress just fine gal!! CHILL!!!
