Clarke breaks Ponting's Australian record for most runs in a calendar year

Clarke has had a phenomenal year but it has to be said that he’s scored 80-90% of his runs at home (on pitches that he’s used to) this year. All his 5 test hundreds (4 of them double hundreds) in 2012 are at home. Australia has produced some of the flattest tracks at home this year.

Re: Clarke breaks Ponting’s Australian record for most runs in a calendar year

Australia are unlikely to bat again in the Melbourne test, so Yousuf’s record is safe imo

Some people have been trying to belittle Moyo’s record on other forums by suggesting that he got most of his runs in 2006 on flat sub-continental tracks. That might be true to an extent but just as playing well on (the unfamiliar) pacy, bouncy snd seaming pitches of Aus/NZ, SA and Eng is the true test of a sub-continental batsman’s calibre, the same way one should judge English, Australian and South African batsmen by how well they do on (unfamiliar) spinning tracks. And if batting on the subcontinental pitches is that easy, why isn’t everyone gunning for the record every year!

Moyo did score some big runs in England in 2006 (631 runs at 90.14 with 3 hundreds incl a double)
http://www.howstat.com.au/cricket/Statistics/Players/PlayerProgressBat.asp?PlayerId=2129&Series=0551

It takes skill to play quality spin on slow tracks as well. Remember England got whitewashed 3-0 by Pak in UAE not so long ago. We didn’t see many high individual scores then, did we?** There is a reason why Strauss and Cook described the test series in India as the Final Frontier**

People need to realise that Clarke would prefer to play in his backyard over the sub-continent any day.

Re: Clarke breaks Ponting's Australian record for most runs in a calendar year

Moyo scored 630 of those runs on England and Clarke scored 4 doubles at his own homeground

Moyo was way ahead
