KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan Tassuduq Hussain Jeelani on Thursday said that terrorists and mafia have taken over Karachi while police seemed to have become helpless in stopping the killings in the city.
He said that violence and bloodshed made headlines in media while the rule of law could be gauged from the fact that half of vehicle owners didn’t have verified documents in the city.
The CJ said that 2000 people were killed in Karachi violence during the last year. He said that the court alone could not bring about a change.

In a day when a dozen people were shot dead in Karachi once again, including Allama Taqi Hadi Naqvi, the CJ has called on government’s bluff on the law and order situation in the city. Altaf Hussain wants the Army to take over the country to root out militants in FATA. Does not Karachi also need such extreme measures? Any Twitter crusader listening out there?
The city is dying at the hands of Taliban and their affiliated groups, and yet some can't see beyond MQM.
People want security first and foremost. Democracy or not.
They want the government to at least give them the right to live. If a government can't provide even this most fundamental of human rights then such a government deserves to be abolished.
MQM is PART OF THE PROBLEM and I can't see why you can't SEE THAT. One family in our circle has been robbed two times recently by MQM affiliated ghundas.
There are many problems. Ghundas in MQM or PPP or any other political parties is obviously part of the problem.
But the biggest problem is Talibanization of Karachi and their target killings of innocent people on the basis of their religious affiliation.
If MQM is the biggest source of lawlessness in Karachi then do let us know why Altaf wants army to take over the city. Why would he want army to capture/kill his own party people?
Having said that, I know that some MQM ghundas have joined hands with sectarian terrorists of SSP and LJ to kill barelvi/shia people.
Altaf needs to fall down a gutter so he can actually be in filth and get his head straight. Can't really associate with MQM with him as its head.
As for calling in army, he has NEVER said that about karachi but about FATA. Regardless of my opinion about it, MQM also called for Rangers when CTBT came to power but were crying hoarse when the rangers 'cleaned up' some criminals. MQM without mustafa kamal is another looser PPP. In fact, PPP & MQM can go have an orgy while they leave us all alone.
I don't care what you think about Altaf. The point was that why would Altaf wants an army takeover if his party was the main cause of terrorism in the city?
Recently Altaf has sought army takeover of the whole country. It is not just about FATA. And earlier he asked for army takeover of Karachi. It was this demand from MQM which resulted in current operation in the city.
So again, if MQM is the main cause of the problem then why would Altaf or MQM want army to step in?
Instead of abusing MQM or Altaf or PPP, you should focus on the discussion. The point is that the government has failed in stopping Talibanization of the city. Innocent people going about their daily lives are being targeted. And the government instead of stopping them is taking political revenge.
A man whose life is at stake does not care about jamhooriyat or democracy or city or country. He first wants to be able to LIVE. What could be more fundamental than that? If government can not do it then this government needs to go.
Seriously, I don't want to argue semantics when Altaf is the biggest hypocrite out there. I might as well believe that Assad is an angel sent from the heavens and the Syrians actually don't deserve this deity. There is already competition from BBZ there.
KARACHI: DG Rangers Doctor Rizwan said on Friday that threat posed to Karachi from the Taliban was not as serious as the threat from land grabbers and extortionists, DawnNews reported.
He added that a list of target killers belonging to the political parties has been completed.
Meanwhile, Rangers’ personnel conducted targeted operations in Federal B area, Garden, Usmanabad, Ranchor lines and several other areas of Karachi and detained over 50 suspects.
The personnel of the paramilitary force also claimed to have recovered a pistol, shotguns and three SMGs from two of the arrested suspects.
Moreover, two people were killed and one wounded in a firing incident near North Nazimabad’s Gol Market.
The victims were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
In separate incidents, a woman was killed by gunshots near Gulshan e Iqbal’s Nipa chowrangi whereas one person was killed by firing in Karachi’s Shershah scrap market.

You can believe all you want. Nobody can change anyone's beliefs. But remember that most of the time beliefs make no sense.
Altaf may be the biggest hypocrite in the world and ISIS may be the angels fighting Assad, but those are not enough of the reasons to prove that eliminating MQM will solve most of Karachi's problem with law and order.
I asked a simple logical question which shows clearly why current situation is bigger than MQM and its ghundas. But instead of replying to that, just abusing Altaf or Assad or Amreeka or Shaitan, does not help the discussion.

achha bhai, maan li Larkana ki baat. Extortionists (MQM, Atlaf, MQM, Altaf, MQM, Altaf) are bigger threat than Taliban for Karachi. Obviously, Ch Aslam was killed by MQM/Altaf, MQM/Altaf, and not by those 'maut ke saudagar'.
It is unfortunate that people who cry about Taliban 'maut ke saudagar' in every thread, who condemn Imran and Nawaz for their support to these 'maut ke saudagar'; are the same people who think that their political rivals are bigger threat than the same 'maut ke saudagar' in the biggest city on which they have total control.
Political victimization is more important for some racist bigots than actually saving lives of innocent people in the city.
They take Karachi as their wife, not as their mother.
