Civilized socities and treatment of ladies

To know how civilized a society is, one should examine how ladies are generally treated there.

Do you agree with this statement given by a philosopher / centuries ago?

By this definition, do we have a civilized society anywhere in the world (east or west), where ladies are exploited as sex symbol on the name of so called freedom or restricted in homes from showing their talent / expertise in a particular field.

Its a two way traffic, in the West people are rewarded for their talents (disregarding their gender). Every one is free to do what ever they want to and wear what ever clothes they wish (could be a head scarf and on the contrary next to nothing). You can see women roaming around in the streets alone during night time, with short dresses and no one would even touch them. Which differentiates them from our own countries.

There would be rape vicitims there too, they are every where but I am sure their stats wont compare with what happens in our countries. Like I was seeing a rape map yesterday, there are over 23000 rapes in India alone. In Pakistan the situation wont be that different, and remember many of these cases are not registered due to family honor issues.

Quantumn of such cases may vary from society to society and one can’t say which society have that more with authenticity considering some factors (like family honor, etc). That means that exploiters exist in all societies

^ rule of law still exists there which ensures that such exploiters will rot in jails, where as in our case what can be said if an ex President and COAS claims that women fake them for getting visas to Western Countries. There's a difference in mentalities.

I think they should be satisfied as they are pampered. One thing that I dont like of their societies is the breakdown of family systems.

In our society there are different reason for rapes....

some rape only to satisfy their lust....
some people use rape as a weapon to humiliate their enemies....e.g.rapes during riots,rapes by feudal lords etc...

As far as philosopher's thought are concerned i agree with him....

IMHO if women of a country are active(in all fields) and educated then more peaceful and civilized that country would be...

in marathi there is saying that an educated woman can educate all her family......and thats true...

Thats cute.

I somehow feel that over the period our society's values have deteriorated over the period of time when it comes to dealing with ladies / females. One of my uncle said that in their time, children including young girls used to play in streets without any fear. We also saw this trend to some extent in our childhood, but the situation has changed rapidly since then.

but the interaction of individuals with different genders at tender age in Pakistani society has lessened over the period of time. Our town has sizable population of Hundus and our elders tell us that they have played with Hindu children in their childhood and people know each other todate and know where they are now. Our generation knows only the names of neighbor’s children

things were very different in the 50s, 60s, and 70s from what i hear from my elders. we had a much more open & tolerating society under the influence of the british, and this probably reflected in a more respectful behavior towards women. things changed with the dawn of the 80s.
