City of Lights..finally gets lights!

I think if you "Read Carefully" Pakistan Generates enough power for it self and actually is in a position to "Export" some to neighbor countries. (Generally)
Currently Pakistan has long standing issues with Grid station and Transmission technology or infrastructure which is not being replaced or extended fast enough.
Lack of water (Hydro) in dams, nuclear power shutdowns for maintenance are other relevant factors.

Problem is quite 'Unique' in reality which has definitely given a wakeup call to all parties.

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

Looking at some posts, it looks like this ship is supposed to solve Karachi's power woes, but it hardly seems realistic.
This can probably bring some immediate relief for some areas. However, this is not the solution. The Arab bosses of KESC need to improve grid infrastructure in the city.

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

u know that with power theft aka kunda and bribing the meter readers.... no corporation can make money!!

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

I think this problem of kunda is a national problem, not just this city's. KESC needs to upgrade the distribution network, and this is independent of kunda problem.

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

This is definitely part of the crisis. People steal electricity, water and so on. Who is going to bear such losses? These losses are in billions if not trillions.

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

As I said, this is a national problem. So why blame just Karachiites?
If kunda system is the root cause of electricity woes then stopping this theft should be the prime responsibility of the government.
But actually kunda system is NOT the root cause. There are other factors, like lack of dams, high rates (government corruption is awarding contracts to IPPs), etc.
So electricity theft should not be tolerated and anyone doing it should be punished. But this is not the reason why KESC (or WAPDA) are in crisis.

Besides, kunda system or not, the grid network MUST be improved in any case.

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

Yesterday they were reporting that electricity produced from this plant is going to be the most expensive in nature, throughout the country, and will result in definite increase in tariff. i think better alternative for the govt was to pay all the out standing dues to KESC and then kick them harder to produce electricity to the fullest capacity and upgrade the distribution network rather than throwing huge amounts in these temporary measures. but who cares when the burden is to be borne by public and huge kickbacks are expected.

these losers can use all the force in killing innocent people in north west, but cannot do anything to stop kunda and bribing, because they themselves are involved in it

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

and after somedays there will be no naam--o-nishaan of this ship and light :@:

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

I remember the stats presented by KESC in 2008/9 "kunda System" create seepage/theft upto max 20% ,, which is considered "maintenance Loss" in developed countries,
so power theft is not a factor ,, but rather a cruel crime that people tend to commit and take it quite causally. Shame on such people!

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

No matter what govt does, nothing will change unless our awam learns that you are not suppose steal electricity. Also, govt should go after water/electricity thieves & prosecute them. That is the only people are going to learn.

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

and awam will only learn when they will be educated about it, not only on TV but in schools, and dont forget that majority of our awam does not go to school, and to make them go, is a job of the govt (not only this govt, i mean all of them), so it ends up again with the govt.

even the most "educated" ones of us, we the people of Karachi, are the biggest thieves of electricity

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

RAW and Mossad have been stealing electricity from Pakistan via the wireless towers they have built along the borders in Afghanistan. They even capture the light coming out of car headlights.

Can mods please leash the unwanted trolls? Thanks :chai:

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

go back to your toilet, aka bharat

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

Someone else running a plant and we paying rental meaning they would be charging more than it costs to run the plant. here you go:

The 230MW ship-mounted power plant, which will be pressed into service on Sunday (today), is by far the most expensive in the country, costing Rs15.66 per unit.*
According to records of Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco), the Karkey Karadeniz Electrik Uretim of Turkey was allowed the high tariff of 5.98 cents per unit in May of 2009. If current furnace oil price (Rs60,000 per ton) is factored in, the price will rise to a whopping 18 cents per unit…*

Add jiyala kickbacks to it and you have a real rape of the country going on.

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

who blamed 'just Karachiites'?

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

^ KESC Karachi Grid importing additional power from WAPDA Grid which also supplies to the North-Western and North-Eastern Regions.
Hopefully KESC will not require any power from WAPDA which in return will cater to the above regions with additional help (So help is still needed unless 'Hydro Sources' improve)

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

and we commit an ecological suicide…

Re: City of Lights..finally gets lights!

So it would be 'Additional' approximately Rs 6.50 more at the current situation. ^ All this fuss and articles based on 'criticism' only, should play a more
corruption preventing roll rather than a wild goose chase. For Pakistan this and such other projects are the need of the hour!
