As they say divine nature gave fields, and human art built the cities.
I’m currently reading *Iqbal: New Dimensions (A Collection of Unpublished and Rare Iqbalian Studies) *translated by M. Ikram Chaghtai, and the introduction of Ilama Iqbal’s early life in Sialkot builds a nostalgia about the old Sialkot which was known as City of Poets, back in the day. It soon occurred to me that literally all major Cities of Pakistan carry an honorary title or two, that not only works as as an ultimate compliment and poetic description about Cities, but captures the spirit of history and heritage of those areas. I find that very romantic, and very inviting.
So let’s share some of the most common titles of some of our beautiful cities (please forgive me if I get any of these incorrect):
Karachi - The City of Lights or The City of Quaid
Sialkot - The City of Iqbal or The City of Poets
Peshawar - The City of Flowers
Quetta - The Fruit Garden of Pakistan
Multan - The City of Saints
Lahore - The City of Gardens
Islamabad - The Green City
Faisalabad - City of Industries or the Manchester of Pakistan
Gujrat - The City of Sohni and Manhiwal
Jhang - The City of Heer
Rawalpindi - The Garrison City or The City of Army
I would like to hope that I got most of these right. Let’s add more in case I’ve left out any.
Dor you agree with most of these titles? And do you think these titles effect the psyche of local city population and the way they perceive their Cities?
I heard it to be 'Roshandano ka shehr'. Never came across pearls of Hyderabad :D
Hyderabad's role in the pearl trade has given it the name, "City of Pearls" and up until the 18th century, the city was also the only global trading centre for large diamonds

Are you talking of Hyderabad, Sindh or Deccan's Hyderabad?
Throughout the history, Lahore's always retained its position as City of government and politics. It's always been the drawing room City for the ruling elite.
