Niels Arden Oplev, director of the superb Swedish adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, will next be making a move to English-language films with The Keep. No, this is not a remake of Michael Mann’s not-on-DVD '80s horror movie, but an adaptation of Jennifer Egan’s novel about two cousins who renovate a medieval castle in Europe. The premise, as relayed by B-D, sounds promising, I just wish the unreliable Ehren Kruger wasn’t penning the script. Also, I guess this pulls Oplev out of the running for my fantasy list of directors for Mission: Impossible 4.

According to The Wrap, the $32.2 million opening weekend for A Nightmare on Elm Street was enough for Warner Brothers to be interested in a sequel (in 3D, naturally). While that seems like the obvious studio response, keep in mind that the Friday the 13th reboot made $8 million more in its opening weekend and its sequel got delayed indefinitely, so I wouldn’t hold my breath for this one.

Joesph Gordon-Levitt may be starring in two thrillers next. The first is Premium Rush, the bike-messenger action movie directed/co-written by David Koepp. The second is Looper, a sci-fi film that would see Gordon-Levitt reuniting with *Brick *director Rian Johnson for a plot about a time traveling hitman from the future who is sent into the past to kill himself. I love Johnson, but man, that is one hell of an ontological paradox to overcome…
