Cida

(CIDA = Canadian International Development Agency)

Does anyone have any information regarding CIDA’s application procedure for giving grants to projects ? They do a lot of stuff in countries like Pakistan, many sub-saharan African countries. i know some of their work is extremely politicized and there are faults with it. i accept that.

Notwithstanding all that, i am curious to learn what criteria you have to satisfy in order to get their funding. Any and all pointers regarding this would be definitively appreciated.

BTW, they have an “International Youth Internship Program” that some of you Canucks may be interested in. You do not need to be a Canadian citizen to apply; permanent residents may apply as well.

From their website:

If you believe a career in international development is for you – you’ve come to the right place.

Through International Youth Internship program(IYIP), you will gain valuable, hands-on international development work experience overseas. You will not only to contribute to Canada’s role in international cooperation, but will also contribute to your personal and professional development. As well, your sponsor organization will lend a helping hand in your search for employment after your internship ends.

CIDA’s International Youth Internship program is an employment program for young Canadian professionals (ages 19 to 30 inclusive). It offers post-secondary graduates the opportunity to gain valuable international development work experience. CIDA is one of the federal government departments that deliver international internships in the Career Focus stream of the government’s Youth Employment Strategy (YES). Although the program is managed by CIDA’s Youth Action Division, the funding is provided through YES by Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC).

Since IYIP began in 1997, about 3,100 young professionals have participated as CIDA interns, sponsored by more than 190 Canadian organizations and their overseas partners.

Organizations (including non-governmental organizations, private sector companies and academic institutions active in CIDA-eligible countries) submit proposals for internship projects to CIDA. Once a project is approved, the sponsor organization recruits and selects young professionals for overseas assignments, prepares them for departure and provides them with ongoing job-search support and overseas supervision. On their return to Canada, the sponsor helps its interns re-integrate into Canadian society.

Internships are a minimum six months long and include at least five months working outside Canada. CIDA, the Canadian and overseas organizations and the intern share the cost of each internship. CIDA’s contribution to the sponsor organization is in cash or in-kind (for example, training). Participants receive a stipend to help cover their living and travel expenses.
