Chutney Popcorn – this movie is about motherhood. I highly recommend it to young Desi girls and boys. The movie is by an unknown young actress/director (Nisha Ganatra). The movie is headed for the prestigious Berlin Film Festival. Madhur Jaffrey plays the mother of two daughters living in NYC. Although it is a lighthearted comedy, but it touches some sensitive interfamily issues.
You will enjoy it.
It is out on video and should be at Blockbuster.

Yeh I saw it today at blockbuster but didn't rent it cause wasn't in the mood but will definitely check it out.
Yeah..saw it at a premier function. Nisha Ganatra also talked about the movie after the function. The movie was not bad but the “production value” for obvious reasons was not up to the mark. The acting also not all that great (Madhur Jaffrey was good though). Did you guys notice the absence of a father figure in the movie ?! They donot talk about Madhur Jaffrey’s husband. I am not a big supporter of gays (not against them though) so the whole theme did not really excite me. Ganatra said after the movie that its “not about being gay”. Anyway…good luck to her in trying to get the movie released in India – might run into some problems. I dont think India is ready for this stuff yet

Having recently re-viewed Bhaji on the Beach, I am especially enthusiastic about seeing Chutney Popcorn.
Good thing I stuck my head in this section of the forum else I might not even have known about the movie.
