Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

Once again minorities are under attack in Pakistan. According to the Archbishop this was a money dispute btw a Muslim who owed debt to a christian and used this as a pretext to deflect attention and create nuisance for the creditors ie christian community

I can believe this version cause the xtian minority in Pakistan is already under so much oppression that its very unlikely it cud risk such a major backlash.

I have come to understand this incident was started on GS but had to be removed because of abusive language being used. Absolutely unnecessary and counter-productive to the objective of having civilized dialogue. Will appreciate calm and sensible posts so Mods do not have an excuse to lock this thread.

Mob torches 3 churches near Nankana
Dawn Report

FAISALABAD/SHEIKHUPURA, Nov 12: A mob of 3,000 people, mostly youth, set to fire three churches and homes of two clergymen as well as destroyed a nursing hostel, nuns’ hostel, a convent school and four other houses in Sangla Hill area of district Nankana on Saturday.

**The rampaging crowd was protesting against alleged desecration of the Holy Quran.
**
Some 300 Christian families reside in the tehsil.

It is alleged that on Friday one Yousaf Masih threw a burning matchstick in the Quran Mahal situated in the Sangla Hill stadium which caught fire. This resulted in some copies of the Holy Quran being burnt to ashes.

Students of a seminary run by Anjuman Melad-i-Mustfa and staff of a dispensary adjacent to the Quran Mahal rushed to the spot and saved the remaining copies of the holy book, newspapers and other material.

**Ten hours after the incident, announcements were made from mosques asking people to gather in front of the Jamia Madni Masjid of the town. Similar announcement were also made after Fajr prayers on Saturday. People were asked to observe a complete strike and not to send children to schools.
**
Responding to the call, a strong mob carrying hockey sticks, iron rods, and axes assembled at the appointed place. Eyewitnesses said some youths also carried tins of kerosene oil.

**Religious leaders made fiery speeches and allegedly provoked the mob to set to fire each and every place of worship of the minority community.
**
Obeying the orders, the protesters rushed to Presbyterian Church of Pakistan situated on the Faisalabad Road and set it to fire. All the furniture, fixture, articles, and religious books were consumed by the blaze.

The mob also burnt the residence of Pastor Tajamal Perveiz.

The enraged youth then went to the Church of Holy Spirit in the Mancher Colony and vandalized it as well as the residence of Father Semson Dilawar.

They also caused severe damage to the Saint Anthony High School, destroying its furniture, record, laboratories and library.

**Some 650 girls receive education at the school, majority of them Muslim.
**
Police used tear-gas shells and resorted to baton charge to disperse the crowd.

DPO Tahir Alam told protesters that the accused had been arrested and a case under section 295-B registered in the Sangla Hill police station.

Police later arrested 80 people for taking part in the rioting.

Reuters adds: The attack seems to be planned and organised as the attackers were brought to the site on buses, Catholic Archbishop Lawrence Saldanaha told a news conference in Lahore.

**He said the church’s own initial investigation suggested the accusations were motivated by a dispute over money.

Akram Gill, a Christian legislator, said the dispute was due to a gambling debt owed by two Muslims to a Christian.
**
“They refused to pay the money and created this nuisance,” Gill said.

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

^^

Bext example of minority tolerance in Pakistan.

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

classically these events usually occur due to financial reasons or personal enimity and religion is dragged into it..the faisalabad region is not an area i'd associate with religious extremism..

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

Zakk,
Worrying factor here is the impunity with which the muslim majority attacks other religious minorities. God forbid if their side of the story was correct, does that give anyone the right to destroy and desecrate other places of worship, education and residential quarters? The answer is an overwhelmingly emphatic No.

We are not living in a vacuum anymore, if Muslims are a majority in Pakistan, then they are also a minority in many other countries. WHat if the xtian majority in those countries decided to seek revenge? We will be back to the dark ages.

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

One should hope FG that the people involved be punished regardless of whether it effects those of us living overseas, but i see your point..in this globalised world the smallest action has repuercussions a world away.

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

Absolutely disgusting if true the perpatuators should be severely punished, first the 'religious leaders' who made such an appeal for vandalism.

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

Stupid Feking Muslims.. We have to be the Dumbest society in the world!

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

This is v..v SAD. Iam pakistani and christian at the same time....usually very peaceful..but i think perpatuators are frustuated muslims..who needs to learn about being tolerant.

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

just other day read an article where a pilgrim team of around 50 refused to go back to pakistan after dipping in holy ganges and indian govt had to provide them citizenship

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

^Dada, what sh1t hole did you crawl out of?

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

not pakistan for sure.. truth hurts buddy i hear u

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

So back to the india-pak bickering? Forgotton so quickly that the christian community in the area is still in fear after the incident from Muslims who burned and destroyed their churches, bibles, schools. But most of us will forget and move on until the next incident.

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

what the thing is,International community should urgently intervene to save Hindus and Christians in Pakistan.

Its really surprising to many why the international community is keeping its mum on these issues, whereas they had a great deal of holler in many other parts of the world.

These are clear cases of human right violences.......

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

Glad to see the police gave the rioting mob was it deserved. A good tear gassing followed by a traditional baton charging.

There’s nothing that makes me happier than seeing a rampaging mob being beaten by the police. It’s a beautiful sight :teary1:

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

Police showed up after the fact. They stood by when the actual rioting was taking place. This is normal for them.

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

Is it?

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

Apparently the ganges…

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

They need a good smack across the head. This is classic…these people think they’re in a position of power over miniroties so think they can treat them however they want. The government is so useless it can’t put these people in check.

Re: Chuches under attack in Pakistan..

Ahem…Pakistanis…
