Chronic Insomnia

Help! Any suggestions on dealing with this affliction? I sleep for usually around 3 hours, then wake up for a couple of hours then sleep again for an hour or 2. Ack, this has been going on since I had my first boy, nearly 5 years ago. I guess my “body clock” got stuck on night feedings and changings. Since I never get a good long stretch of sleep, I’m always feeling so tired even if i get in an extra nap. Help!!!

Re: Chronic Insomnia

I don't know if it has any direct or indirect connection with diabetes. I know people who had the same problem and then were diagnosed with diabetes.

Re: Chronic Insomnia

Yes I heard that too...but just went for a physical, doc did all kinds of tests and found nothing that would cause insomnia. she told me to exercise more, get out of bed when I wake up, no watching tv in bed. Good suggestions but it didnt help at all.

Re: Chronic Insomnia

From what I understand, its also a normal aging phenomenon. Many people when they get older, sleep less. Perhaps take some sleeping pills?

Re: Chronic Insomnia

lol, are you telling me i'm old pcg? well i guess its true....

anyway, I give a sigh of longing when I see those ads on TV for Lunesta. my doc doesnt want to go that route though and I didnt push it, I felt funny asking for them esp since she mentioned that she doesnt like to prescribe them. I do think that if she gave me even just 5 nights worth though, my "body clock" would reset. I'm wondering if maybe there is some kind of herbal thing I guess that would have the same effect....I tried those over-the-counter meds and they didnt help, they just made me feel drowsy all the next day. ack.

Re: Chronic Insomnia

I never had insomnia problem. So I can't really offer any advice. I always get a nice sound sleep. The moment I go to bed it's just within ten minutes I am lost. I feel myself lucky when I hear the nightmares of insomniacs. Last week when my millionaire boss was mentioning about his sleeping problem, I was telling one of my colleague that despite being poor I enjoy better quality of life than this workaholic millionaire who knows nothing except work and even doesn't enjoy his sleep.

If on some occasions, I get up in the midnight which is extremely rare then I just grab the most boring book and then I'm back to my sleep.

Re: Chronic Insomnia

ive heard mothers say...you'll never be able to sleep the way u used 2 b4 having kids.
I think it's mainly because mom's subconsciously worry about their kids at night. I'm sure you check up on ur kid/kids whenever you are awake right?
if so...perhaps your body is just used to doing so.

Re: Chronic Insomnia

light exercise,a hot bath and eating chocolate with warm milk before bed is recommended.dont sleep in the day or afternoon.the effects of a cup of tea/coffee at 1 pm in the morning persist till 11 pm so lay off them.

Re: Chronic Insomnia

hmm seems like its' been goin on for quite a while, I would suggest going to see your doctor and he probably would give you some Ambien or other Prescription drug to help you.. I usually take nyquil whenever i have that problem and it works but its not the right treatment :P

Re: Chronic Insomnia

Eienstien used to sleep over 10 hours. But Thomas Alva Edison used to manage it in 4 hours.
