Re: Christmas gifts...

Thats funny, i was suppose to open this thread...

What about gifts for really nice neighbors?

Re: Christmas gifts…

i wud never waste my money on that crap, but if u want ideas.. bath and bodyworks always has nice lil gifts..victorias secret (perfume/amkeup sets)…yesh i know very girly, very standard, but i LOVE this kind of stuff

Re: Christmas gifts…

sara i dont think that is appropriate for co-workers.

i would simply do chocolates, cookies, or even gift cards to starbucks or something of that nature.

Re: Christmas gifts...

oh yeah.. i meant for freidns and nice nieighbors :)

Re: Christmas gifts...

oh yea....i luv getting lotions and scented candles from bath and body works. you can nvr go wrong with that.

Re: Christmas gifts...

mybe im just superficial, but i'd much rather prefer this kinda stuff to something that's "thoughtful and matches my personality" but i cant use and will just sit there and go to waste..

Re: Christmas gifts…

by nice neighbours i meant an entire family :stuck_out_tongue: Mostly a an african american guy and his two lil boys, the mother i hardly ever see…OMG i cant even imagine the look on his face if he opens up VS or bath and body gift sets :cb:

actually nevermind, just buy me a paan ki dukan

Re: Christmas gifts...

oh, its that time of year again! Its gonna cost a bomb for spending £££ on gifts for gorey co-workers at my place!

Re: Christmas gifts...

baked goods that you made yourself, nicely wrapped on a pretty plate or in a nice bowl (you can find green and red plastic wrap in the grocery store).....

set of 2 novelty coffee mugs with a pound of special ground coffee, nicely wrapped....

A specialty "cookie kit"....everything you need to make a lovely batch of special cookies (ie., Nestle Toll House....buy the chocolate chips in grocery store, ingredients are on the package) Get all non-perishable ingredients together, put them on top of a non-stick cookie baking sheet and wrap in holiday plastic wrap, maybe add some cheerful cookie cutters.

something nice to eat is always a very nice gift and is always appreciated. Things like soaps, perfumes, aftershave lotions are a personal thing....unless you know what the person truly likes, theres always a good chance that it will go unused.

Re: Christmas gifts...

Good ideas Mamaof3!

Re: Christmas gifts...

Get thee baking, sparkle!!! will save you money and be more appreciated than you could know.

BTW, a very nice "Have a Happy Holiday" card is a very nice thing to do when you want but cannot afford so many gifts. They will know that although it isnt YOUR holiday, you are wishing them happiness in theirs and its really the thought that matters.

Although christmas is of course a christian holiday, it was never a religious holiday for my family - or most of the other gori families that I know. The thing is the "joy" of christmas, the joy of giving, of family and friends, of making "magic" for the children.

The best "Christmas" song I've ever heard was "Let there be Peace on Earth and let it begin with me"....Now THATS a good reason to have a holiday! And a good thing to contemplate and try to acheive!

Re: Christmas gifts...

Curious to know...do these "Gora" you are getting X-Mas gifts for....do they get Eid presents for you on your holiday? Just a thought. Anyways, little trinkets are usually nice at work. How about little elegant candle gift sets? Maybe even a really nice tree ornament?

Re: Christmas gifts...

Ms A-S, most Gori are unaware of Eid. It typically passes unnoticed so unless it is mentioned and explained by those you know, sadly it will not be acknowledged. Once I knew what it was, I made sure to give candies and clothing (to those I knew well)...

So lesson to be learned....at gori-holiday time, talk about YOUR holidays too. Let them know when, what, where, etc etc. Holidays are fun to talk about, fun to celebrate and most people are eager to join in...whether its within their own religion or not.

Re: Christmas gifts...

Yeah I make it a point to be known that I celebrate Eid 2 times, and that we go thru Ramadan. My co-workers are especially respectful of me while im fasting, especially when they are going to lunch/eating lunch. They actually apologize if I smell french fries from them and make a comment how hungry I am. Also on Eid, or day when I go back to work after I eid, I usually bring in mihtai or a cake then. And now they kind of get the gist and have started wishing me. One thing I do, whether right or wrong is I give out sweets/trinkets on Eid day...since that is when I am celebrating and in a festive mood. THeir X-mas i simply wish them.

Re: Christmas gifts…

yea, they gave me Eidy money for Eid & before Ramadan month started, they gave me Ramadan calenders (similar to xmas advent calender with chocs inside).

thanks for the ideas for elegant candle gift sets.theyr roughly £2-£5 in shops like ASDA,Netto,Morrisons,Woolworths.

i just wanna spend under a fiver on each person if i have to. :bummer:
