choray

Re: choray

You people are so dumb.
Don't confuse Churas/Churey: "Low caste untoucbles" with Shora/Shori/Shorey: Young boy/girl

Chura 's are even lower on the caste scale than Chamars.

The fact that they are mostly Christian is because they were of such low caste that nobody (Hindus, Sikhs, Muslim) wanted them to join their religion.
Christain missionairiaes in the late 1890's started converting them to christainity and thats what caused the Islamic reform, Sikhs reform and Hindu reform (arya samaj) movements to start.
Hindu Churas are called Churas and they refer to themselves as Valmiki/Balmiki.
Sikh Churas are called Majabhi Sikhs.
Pakistani Churas are called christain or Churas.

Don't you think its wrong to put someone in any category - upar wala jab insaan banata hai to category dekh ke banata hai.. No those stupid stuff has been created by stupid humans on this earth.

Let me break news to you.. in your dictionary that "chora" drinks, sleep, breath the same stuff as yours- Underneath that skin we are all the same...

Re: choray

You really are a little slow.

When did I say anything bad about churas. All I wrote was try to clear your misunderstanding between churas and shoras.
Maybe you still don't comprehend the difference.

Re: choray

yeah you are right i dont get stupidity that often but its ok *wink

Re: choray

please share. I am curious to know the origins.

Re: choray

OK here is some details that I know, might not be correct, but its kinda history I read behind word "chooray" for christians in Pakistan (or rather punjab).

When christian missionaries starting working in India, the lower cast who were working mostly as cleaners were treated badly by higher cast hindus and muslims. They were necessary part of the society but neither muslims nor (higher cast) hindus wanted to be the part of them.

Their only way of income was to clean the toilets (fuzla) and make some money. Most of them were hindus by religion but couldn't escape, so as a purpose of escape they converted from hinduism to christainity. Unfortunately very few of them could ever get out of their original work and carried on with the cleaners job.

The word chooray was not associated to them for being christian, they were chooray before they were christian, but since most of them converted ... they inherited the word "chooray".

With time people started calling christians chooray and unfortunately until last 20 or 30 years they were still doing the same job, cleaning. Most of the road/street cleaners are still christian. Though many of them got educated and now working at higher posts.

Re: choray

^I agree
Nowadays it is used for the punjabi christians and obviously a derogatory term .

I think it is mainly linked with their occupation chora is a hindi/sanskrit word for sweepers. chooray chamaar(any occupation related with leather normally a shoemaker)qasai(butcher) kunjray(grocer/vegetable seller) are all used when people refer to low castes.

teli and mirasi are other low castes

It is unfortunate but we still follow catse system

Re: choray

I sort of knew its a derogatory term and shouldn't be used, hopefully the person who is ignorant enough to think that is is ok to call all christians choray, got the message.

Re: choray

Chura/Shudra is considered a lowly, filthy and untouchable caste in Hinduism.

Islam has no toleration for these things, Islam teaches that every human (regardless of race, ethnicity or tribe) is born equal because all humans are descended from the same ancestor. Race, ethnicity or tribe should not be important to Muslims but due to our ignorance and narrow mindedness we give these silly things importance.

A lot of Chura/Shudra people converted to Christianity at the hands of missionaries because they were fed up of being a part of a faith which discriminated and oppressed them, that's why the term became synonymous to Christian in South Asia.

Sadly even many ignorant South Asian Muslims believe in the caste system because the vast majority of them were once Hindu and despite their current religion Islam strictly forbidding such nonsense old habits seem to die hard.

Re: choray

and my parents think using the word “desi” and “you guys” is derogatory :halo:
