Choosing the right Tablecloth..

Guys I really do need your help :hinna:

I have a glass dining table ..and I have come to a point of dreading guests coming to my place .. since the table gets new scratches everytime :naraz:

I need a tablecloth , what material should i choose? I want it to be classy and modern yet easy to wash … I was told white pure cotton tablecloth is easy to handle since you can even bleech it … but our desi khana stains are really hard to remove sometimes …

Generally my dining room/ kitchen theme is Black , Pink, silver and Brown. So please advise me what possible colors and material I should pick .

Thanks abunch.

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

dear if u hv glass dinning table. then it must design work on its down mean foot. and it didn't look good such like cover. u use liquid for mirror clean. and if still u want in my point of view place the clothe plastic. means seesha plastic but cloth one means soft. it will not torn easily and easy to clean.

well wait for other suggestion/

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

I'm sure you can this clear plastic coating for glass tables, like sticky back plastic but less sticky if that makes sense. I remember a friend having it on her coffee table and you couldn't even tell it was there but protected the glass against scratches.

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

Get pretty placemats and use them when you have guests.

You can also get matching coasters for glasses and use trivets for serving bowls.

Otherwise, when guests are over, you can place a clear plastic/vinyl tablecloth and remove it right after dinner.

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

Brit Chick, i cant seem to find that plastic sheet anywhere .. and the ones i have seen are a bit thick :bummer: … do you know of any places i can find them? coz if i can , thats my first choice … ..

toyger, I do use placemats , but the scratches come on the non covered area :smack: specially with guests with kids , its hard to control their movement …

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

yeah u r right . in gathering it is hard to manage like that. it is upto the guest who behave or deal carefully. if u r in lhr then u can find these placement in liberty plaza, or nishat, breeze.

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

Is pure cotton considered a good choice in tablecloth? is it easy to clean? I have noticed in most shops here that the placemats and the tablecloth are pure cotton and i keep wondering , does it not stain ...

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

gingham check cotton.

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

Hareem , I dont like that design  .. actually what i have in mind is like either a Plain brown or a black tablecloth .. with glossy/shiney/satin self printed table runner on top ..

My issue is i dont know what fabric wouldbe best to choose. Something thats easy to clean and wont stain . Any suggestions?

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

you might wanna try a plain table cloth(and runner) of your choice and then a clear plastic sheet on top....it protects the fabric underneath and also clean up is easy.
I personally do not like the plastic thing too much but since there is no other choice I have it on my dining table too....

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

chipsie where did you get it from?
I have been looking around for it , cant find it .. the ones I saw are so thick ...

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

CB…in the US it is available at bed bath and beyond…
http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?sku=10265207

Also we have it at Walmart…there it is in the form of big rolls and you can get as much as needed…(just like fabric at fabric stores)

Maybe you can find it at Amazon…they have it there too…

and if nothing works…get it from Pakistan…:hehe:
I got the very first one from there when I was visiting…

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

:cb:The plastic sheets can be found at Wal-Mart. They sell it by the yard.

If all else fails, you can just use newspaper! Or spread a sheet on the floor and have everyone eat there (only kidding!) :cb:

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

CB - have sent a text to my friend asking her about her plastic. Otherwise, is this what you mean as an alternative?

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

chicken biryani i am in the same boat... before buying the dining table i didnt know glass could scratch taht easily... now i have to hide the beauty of the table (which was due to the glass) with table clothes not just when having ppl over but normally too... it just scratches insanely easily.

i think those plastic covers that cover the fabric tablecloth are kinda paindoo looking...but i do admit necessary...i try to avoid using it...its something that our moms would use...but if you have an nice trendy dining room/dinner party going on..that plastic cover can just ruin it...if u dont use it however u may be using your nice table cloth for the last time...

i would like to k now more about that clear platic thingy that britchick mentioned (the one that you could barely tell was on the coffee table) where can we get that one for...i would like to put something like that directly on the glass cover table...

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

yes brit chick , i did meansomething like that :hmmm: only with a tablecloth under the table runner … to avoid any areas being exposed to scratches …

if you guys get it in walmart , we must get it here in ASDA .. but i dont think asda sells it  .. has any one here in the UK seen in in any shops?

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

**Yea we have that plastic covering on our dining table and it might not look great but it definitely makes it a lot easier to clean up!

Chicken Biryani : I live in the UK and it’s easily available from the Desi stores that normally sell anything and everything lol …I’m from Birmingham if that helps..**.

Re: Choosing the right Tablecloth..

CB are you from London? You can usually get it from the curtain shops especially Asian ones.
