Choosing formula

So Jr. Is mashAllah 10 months and I just feel he is not getting full by bf. We have started solids. Thing is supply is there but he just doesn’t focus on drinking, he will have a little and then wants to play. I have tried everything to get him to focus but doesn’t seem like that is gonna happen.

I would like to supplement bf with milk, my question is can I start giving him cows milk ?? If no, how do I choose formula milk??? Right now he does have cerelac in a more liquidy form. Pls guide. Thanks

Re: Choosing formula

Talk to your doctor about him not being focused. Honestly, my doctors have given me so many tips on bf. I don't have enough milk supply so my baby is just not interested but I still put him on my breast. One of the advice my doctor gave me is don't make baby too comfortable while he is drinking your milk. Don't put blankets on him. He'll be more alert and focused. But yeah do talk to your doctor about this bf issue.

I am thinking you can start regular milk from age 1.. not sure though. My hospital gave my new born similac from the begining and he didn't seem to have any problem so I am still giving him that. You'll have to try several different formulas at first to see what fits him best. You can get samples maybe at first of enfamil, similac and see which one he likes better. Every formula comes in several different type.. ones for colicy babies, gasy babies, regular formulas. Go on their website to see the different products they carry, and different sizes. Sign up get the coupons and samples too.

Re: Choosing formula

All formulas are prerty uch the same unless they are made for issues like "acid reflux" or "for hungrier babies" etc etc... So u just have to find one ure baby likes...

Talk to his doc too... My son drank nan...but then was diagnosed with having acid relux so was put on enfamil AR...

And its true ...do not make ure kid comfy.. Mine would fall asleep... I would feed him without his trousers on..let him feel a bit cold...made him drink properly...

For bfeeding..one of my mumanis used to face the wall cuz her son would be enetertained by everything. The wall was too boring and he would drink uP.

Re: Choosing formula

Thanks spiral and khawa. Spiral we go to the Govt hospital ( they have fresh vaccines ) but the downfall is that doctors don't spend time talking it is usually in and out with the baby so I doubt they are gonna give me tips . Also no samples, I would have to buy diff brand boxes and try them out (I hate wasting money or food so not looking forward to this option). I guess will have to try the boring wall thing.

Re: Choosing formula

Its recommended not to give babies cow's milk until they're a year old.

I have the same problem, peanut like to fall asleep while feeding, i saw a lactation consulaltant when he was three weeks old and she suggested that when I feed him during the day I take off all his clothes and just leave him in a diaper....don't worry he won't be cold your body will keep him warm. If you have a habit of stroking his hair or some other comfort habit, stop, I was stroking his hair while feeding and he was falling asleep because of it.

For the formula, i would suggest you get samples of a few and see which one your baby likes....also if you have good supply try pumping and giving it to him in a bottle.

Re: Choosing formula

He's 10 months and probably needs less milk. I imagine he is more mobile suddenly. He probably gets bored and would rather be doing other things. Still, the milk is important. ALWAYS nurse first, before offering solids. Then nurse again after. Hopefully that will get him to the max milk intake. If he stays on 10 minutes on the first side, and maybe another 5 on the other, he's probably fine.

If you can wait it out for another month or two and just offer him milk in a cup, then that is probably better, rather than introducing formula this late in the game. But if you do go with formula: We used Similac Advanced with Early Immune Support (blue) until there was some recall, at which point we switched to the Enfamil Lipil/Infant. It took a few days for Bunny to adjust, but then she was fine.

Re: Choosing formula

Automne....in that case...if ure baby is healthy...go with any formula...ask the pharmacist uant formula for a normal babt...i know ure location...nan is the most recommended there and easily available... Just get the right age level..i think its gonna be nan 3 (they are divided age wise)...

But i agree with sahar... Just 2 more months and then he can start regular milk... I wouldnt start jim on formula if i were u only cuz its got its own set of issues with gas, constipation and then the ordeal of finding the rigght bottle and nipple and the worst issue...what if he stops taking ure breast completely...its just frustrating...i wouldnt mess with something that is running smoothly...

If u dont think he is getting enough milk through u...offer him other dairy stuff...like yoghurt..and cheese... And ya...the boring wall hehe
