Choose - win the battle or win the war

Muslims today feel that they are being singled out and perhaps discriminated against. Many things come up in the newscasts … most recently the ban on facebook. Yet, doesnt it kind of make sense…that those who so violently protest against “draw the Prophet day”…these are the people who come popping out of the woodwork for the world (read: CIA, FBI, Mossad) to see?

Those who vigorously encourage the banning of facebook are often those types who would wish “death to infidels” yeah?

Because…really folks. Freedom of speech is a right but is also (and even MORE so) … a responsibility. Those who are clods enough to defame, demean or otherwise discriminate are just that. Clods. Many/most of us realize this and just say"leave em to it, lets re-iterate our beleifs and how much we take offense at their actions which to US are blasphemous"…

But when clods are gven power to the point that a country shuts down a much-valued source of communications, dont you see that its not hurting the clods but yourselves because it gives the clods power?

Personally, I dont think its clods that are initiating these things. I think its governmental agencies trying to “stir things up” to get the fundamentalists (or extremests or whatever you want to call them) to come crawling out of the woodwork so that they can be monitored, watched and kept track of. Not a bad strategy for sure…

Re: Choose - win the battle or win the war

speak plainly please....I really have no idea whether you are agreeing, disagreeing or just venting :(

If you disagree, please feel free to explain in plain and simple language why...I am for sure open to hearing opposing points of view, its just that the one I posted above kinda makes sense. To ME. Sure I could be wrong. So lets discuss...in a rational manner yeah?

Re: Choose - win the battle or win the war

I have not seen or heard of violent protests in the news (don’t watch much mainstream media) so can’t comment on that. But banning facebook did have a major affect on facebook administration. Any business which is banned in a country like Pakistan where millions are customers, that business will re-think its business strategies, no doubt about it. Plus, if people can boycott facebook for piracy concerns, I think Muslims have every right to boycott and ban, for the greatest man that ever lived.

The “extremists” will be there, cartoons or no cartoons.

but but .. infidels must be killed..

aaah… i will blow myself up ..i am already seeing goats.. in my dreams… aaaaaaww.. cute goats..

The homophobe babbles his usual b******t.

There are many Muslims with even what some may describe as liberal or moderate views who support the ban too. The whole issue should not turn into a moderate vs extremist issue. We can disagree or agree over issues such as whether a face cover is valid in islam but whe it comes to issues surroundig our Prophet all Muslims should have a united stance.

I have no ideawhat is so valuable about facebook. The same people who use it keep in touch with their friends on HI5, Orklut, Msn Messenger, Yahoo Messengwer, Google Chat , Bebo not to foret face to face, mobile phones and landline telephones.

I see your point on the agenda to monitor extremists. They have been doing that ever since humans started to become more dependent upon electronic forms of communication which are more easily tracked and recorded.

mama0f3 talking about battles, wars, sacrifice and victory

all from a muslim viewpoint

hmmm, watch for crackling on your phone!

When you say freedom of speech is a responsibility and one shouldnt defame, demean,.... it ceases to be freedom of speech. It becomes self censorship. And when you dont write, say, publish etc something just because it might offend someone, its not freedom of speech. It might be the responsible or right or moral thing not to draw the prophet, but when you do that freedom of speech goes out the window. Dont try to claim freedom of speech comes with responsibility in this case, because it doesnt. Its very clear cut.

In other instances responsibility does play part, for instance one is allowed to sue for libel or slander. Or one cannot cause panic by screaming fire in an area with many people when there is no fire.

This debate is not about the right to offend a religion, but it is about having to face no consequences when one does offend a religion. And as long as these actions have not caused you any great physical, emotional, or monetary losses, shut up and ignore the cartoons. You should feel secure enough to not let these actions phase you. If most people had ignored the cartoon, everything would have blown over quietly, but off course Muslims had to make such a fuss and encourage more disrespectful actions to occur. By banning FB and other websites you played right into the hands of the people organizing these events and furthered their agendas.

So if you want to win the war ignore others, make them look like fools by saying their attempts to disrespect your religion have failed.

Re: Choose - win the battle or win the war

Shard, my phone has been cracklin' for years...silly me, I thought it was just bad connections lol!!

Heyhey, I still say that freedom of speech IS a responsibility...in countries that practice it, you can say prettymuch whatever the heck you want yeah? BUT people who have been raised properly and with a good set of morals practice censorship on themselves so as not to offend people of differing culture, beleif or religion. But the fact remains that they are still free to say whatever they want right? ANYhoo...the rest of what you say makes much sense.

Re: Choose - win the battle or win the war

Mo3, how much did you consider following factors before composing this thread?

  1. no electricity and sky rocketing electricity bills
  2. Pakistani population is 17 million, it doesn't mean entire 17 million is literate and educated. so what is the ratio of literate people being affected by FB shut down?
  3. how many household actually owns a computer? mobile with internet?
  4. how many people in each household actually have a FB account?
  5. how many out of 17 million people have internet access, both High-Speed Broadband Internet and dial-up? or available on their cell phone?
  6. how many actually have High-Speed Broadband Internet?

instead of FB, if they had shutdown mobile services then i can say Pakistani will lose a lot. but fb is that important yet in Pakistan. may be a million or two million pakistani use it which is not even a half a population of pakistan. and tbh FB just a way to connecting with people that you havent talked in person neither you have intention of talking to those people, share pictures or play farmville. i dont know what exactly anyone gains from FB?

it might be affecting those aunties who sell clothes through fb.
