Muslims today feel that they are being singled out and perhaps discriminated against. Many things come up in the newscasts ... most recently the ban on facebook. Yet, doesnt it kind of make sense...that those who so violently protest against "draw the Prophet day"...these are the people who come popping out of the woodwork for the world (read: CIA, FBI, Mossad) to see?
Those who vigorously encourage the banning of facebook are often those types who would wish "death to infidels" yeah?
Because...really folks. Freedom of speech is a right but is also (and even MORE so) ... a responsibility. Those who are clods enough to defame, demean or otherwise discriminate are just that. Clods. Many/most of us realize this and just say"leave em to it, lets re-iterate our beleifs and how much we take offense at their actions which to US are blasphemous"...
But when clods are gven power to the point that a country shuts down a much-valued source of communications, dont you see that its not hurting the clods but yourselves because it gives the clods power?
Personally, I dont think its clods that are initiating these things. I think its governmental agencies trying to "stir things up" to get the fundamentalists (or extremests or whatever you want to call them) to come crawling out of the woodwork so that they can be monitored, watched and kept track of. Not a bad strategy for sure....
When you say freedom of speech is a responsibility and one shouldnt defame, demean,.... it ceases to be freedom of speech. It becomes self censorship. And when you dont write, say, publish etc something just because it might offend someone, its not freedom of speech. It might be the responsible or right or moral thing not to draw the prophet, but when you do that freedom of speech goes out the window. Dont try to claim freedom of speech comes with responsibility in this case, because it doesnt. Its very clear cut.
In other instances responsibility does play part, for instance one is allowed to sue for libel or slander. Or one cannot cause panic by screaming fire in an area with many people when there is no fire.
This debate is not about the right to offend a religion, but it is about having to face no consequences when one does offend a religion. And as long as these actions have not caused you any great physical, emotional, or monetary losses, shut up and ignore the cartoons. You should feel secure enough to not let these actions phase you. If most people had ignored the cartoon, everything would have blown over quietly, but off course Muslims had to make such a fuss and encourage more disrespectful actions to occur. By banning FB and other websites you played right into the hands of the people organizing these events and furthered their agendas.
So if you want to win the war ignore others, make them look like fools by saying their attempts to disrespect your religion have failed.
